While information on the exact founding date or a detailed history of the specific "Albany Upstate Dental" brand is not readily available, the broader "Upstate Dental" name has historical ties to the origins of Aspen Dental, which was founded in 1998 as a merger involving a company called "Upstate Dental." However, Albany Upstate Dental appears to operate as an independent practice within the Albany community. Patient reviews indicate a mixed bag of experiences, highlighting excellent dental hygienists and some concerns regarding communication with certain dentists. They are known for providing state-of-the-art dental technology to ensure top-quality care.

Dr. Nan Pham did wonderful work on an extraction I needed done. The procedure was seamless and my healing process has gone very well.

I was getting all my dental work done here for years. Randomly I receive a phone call that they are recommending me out because I need “sedation” for work which was not true. They randomly decided to lie on my chart and wouldn’t work with me to figure out the problem. I got cleanings, fill ins, even got my wisdom teeth taken out here and never once had any issue.

The dentist that did my cleanings and fill ins was Dominican so we even bonded over our culture. Never thought they would randomly lie on me like that. Super weird and unprofessional.

Love going here because my dental hygenist is AWESOME and I truly enjoy seeing her and the love and care she puts into cleaning my teeth and educating me on dental hygiene. However, I will be leaving this office due to Dr. Malik.

Originally, I thought maybe I was the problem as a patient, but now looking through these reviews I can see that he's actually the problem. I have the same experience as others who left reviews -- he barely speaks to you, doesn't consider your concerns, and in my case keeps wanting to have my orthodontist sign off on a procedure. We have spoken more than once on getting wisdom tooth extractions and he refuses to extract them because he thinks they're straight and fine even though I have spoken with a prior dentist who recommended removing them.

I really don't want to leave this office because like I said I love the dental hygienist, but I do not feel listen to and considered as a patient collaborating care with a provider. He comes in there looks a little bit, ignores what I'm saying, and barely says anything so I don't know what's going on and then tells me I'm okay to go.

I don’t usually write long review, but I feel the need to share my experience to warn others. I had a root canal done at this dental office. At first, everything seemed fine, but about two years later, I started feeling serious pain. It got so bad that a visible bubble formed on my face. I went to another dentist and was told that the root canal had not been properly cleaned or sealed.

Bacteria had been left behind, which caused a deep infection. I ended up needing surgery just to clean out the area and correct the damage. When I returned to them to let them know what happened, I was brushed off. I was told they “did their best” and that this kind of thing “can happen,” even though the second dentist clearly explained this was due to improper work. What’s worse is they make all patients sign paperwork on the first visit that basically protects them from any liability — even if the doctor makes a mistake, you’re the one left dealing with it.

Please be cautious. Please be aware. Please consider finding another dentist. No one should have to go through this pain, stress, or cost because of someone else’s negligence.
