Detailed Introduction

The Allegany County Health Department Dental Clinic is a publicly funded dental clinic located in the Brook Building at 12503 Willowbrook Rd, Cumberland, MD 21502. Operating under the umbrella of the Allegany County Health Department, a state public agency under the Maryland Department of Health, the clinic is dedicated to protecting and optimizing the oral health of community residents. The clinic primarily serves children under 21 and pregnant women who are eligible for the Maryland Healthy Smiles Dental Program (Medicaid), providing a wide range of comprehensive dental services. These services include regular checkups, teeth cleanings, fluoride treatments, X-rays, fillings, root canals, crowns, extractions, and anesthesia. For children, additional covered services include sealants and orthodontics. For adults, the clinic offers tooth extraction services on a sliding fee scale, including for those with a Maryland Medical Card, and provides limited urgent dental care. These extraction clinics are typically held by appointment. Beyond direct clinical care, the Allegany County Health Department Dental Clinic is actively involved in community oral health initiatives. They run a school-based sealant program where their dental team visits local elementary schools to apply free dental sealants to eligible children. They also offer dental health education to the community, including presentations for expectant parents, WIC (Women, Infant & Child Program) participants, and Head Start families. Dental screenings are also provided for Head Start children. The clinic operates Monday through Friday, with appointments typically scheduled between 8:45 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. They follow all infection control regulations to ensure a clean and safe environment for patients. Their goal is to provide professional care and a positive experience for all families, with a particular focus on children.

They do a great job! Excellent experiences all around, and we've been there a couple of times now, with an upcoming appointment again soon. The staff is very friendly, and they will do their best to make you comfortable!

Care from staff is excellent. I was worried because usually "clinic" and "county health department" are a reason to have low expectations. But it was as clean and comfortable as any dentist office I've ever visited and the staff made me feel comfortable and did a great job taking care of my dental issues.

I just went there on 11/22/2024 (a Friday). I originally only wanted two teeth extracted, but after looking at the Xrays and my lower right side, they talked me into having them removed, because they were all impacted down to the gums/bone. Agreeing to that was the absolute best decision I made. I haven't chewed anything on that side just to be sure it heals 100%. I plan to go back for more extractions, but only if I can get the same crew I had this time. I am a puss when it comes to tooth pain.

30+ years ago, I had a compound fracture on my left wrist, and with pain, I still worked carrying 5 gal. buckets of hot tar up a 40ft extension ladder, and moving rail road ties. The pain from that was mild compared to a toothache. Bottom line, the dental clinic at the local health department knows their business.
