Detailed Introduction

Aspen Dental is a prominent dental support organization (DSO) that provides administrative, marketing, and operational support to over 1,100 independently owned Aspen Dental-branded practices across the United States. Founded in 1994, their headquarters are in Chicago, Illinois. The core mission of Aspen Dental is to break down barriers to dental care, particularly for individuals who may not have an existing relationship with a dental provider or face financial hurdles. Each Aspen Dental office is independently owned by a licensed dentist, who maintains clinical autonomy in treating patients. This DSO model allows dentists to focus on providing patient care while the central organization handles the business aspects, such as staffing, billing, insurance negotiations, and technology infrastructure. This structure is designed to improve efficiency and productivity within the practices. Aspen Dental offers a comprehensive range of dental services, including: General Dentistry: Check-ups, cleanings, fillings, and oral health assessments. Emergency Care: Addressing urgent dental needs like severe pain, cracked, or broken teeth. Restorative Dentistry: Crowns, bridges, dentures (with on-site labs for quick turnaround), and dental implants. Cosmetic Dentistry: Teeth whitening, veneers, and Motto® clear aligners for teeth straightening. Specialty Services: Oral surgery (extractions, wisdom teeth removal, bone grafting) and endodontics (root canals). A key aspect of Aspen Dental's approach is making dental care accessible and affordable. They offer various payment options, including dental financing, accepting dental insurance, and their own Aspen Dental Savings Plan, which provides discounts on services for an annual membership fee. Aspen Dental is also actively involved in community initiatives, notably through their "Healthy Mouth Movement." This program, which has been running for over a decade, provides free dental care and education to underserved individuals, with a significant focus on U.S. veterans. Initiatives include nationwide "Day of Service" events, the "Smile for Your Service" program (sponsoring veterans' full treatment plans), and the TAG Oral Care Center for Excellence, which offers free, state-of-the-art care to Illinois residents in need. They previously operated the "MouthMobile," a mobile dental clinic that traveled to provide care in various communities. While the DSO model has faced some scrutiny in the past regarding potential for overcharging or unnecessary treatments, Aspen Dental emphasizes transparency with patients, providing comprehensive treatment plans. Their goal is to ensure patient care is paramount while supporting dentists with the business infrastructure needed to thrive.

I had done a Google search to find clinics who do full mouth restoration. Implant supported dentures. I have been advised already at multiple clinics I am a good candidate for this as I am currently missing 4 teeth, have 6 crowns and need 8 more. My teeth continue to deteriorate so I am not going to keep spending money to "fix" them when ultimately I'll have to replace them all anyways. I set the appointment up to get a quote for an all cash price. Dental coverage through my employer does not cover any of this. I got to the clinic 40 mins early. I had XRays done, explained multiple times I didn't need a whole exam or treatment plan as I made the decision more than a year ago to do this. I am able to get this done finally, so I am getting quotes together because I am now trying to move forward. Their resident Dentist spent 20 minutes counting my cavities and telling me how important it is to take care of my teeth and its better to try and fix our natural teeth because they are better than any artificial teeth. My teeth are in as bad of condition they are because of a calcium deficiency I have in my body. Before 2009 I had never had a cavity in life. My teeth are ugly.

They cause me pain, I've already spent over $10,000 on "fixing" them. It's embarrassing to sit and listen to a lecture about how I should try and save my own teeth. I was very uncomfortable the whole exam, I told him to stop trying to convince me to Their website says cost is approx $22,000 for the fixed implanted denture per arch. When all said and done should be about $45,000. the quote I got was for $80,000! I spent a total of 2 hours there wasting all our time, the lady in the office tried to sell me on a monthly dental plan they have because they had asked me for a THIRD time if I had insurance and I told them no. It's not that I don't have insurance, I do through my employer. However I know this is not covered at all so I'm not going to provide my insurance info to you. The look of confusion from this gal I received was crazy. Does no one at this clinic listen to their clients/patients and the reason they scheduled the appointment??? I again explaind why I was there, I only wanted an invoice for a quote for full mouth restoration. Implant supported dentures. I was advised I'm a good candidate, no one has said I need any additional out of the normal procedure things done. Please just give me a quote so I can leave and you all can stop trying to get me to buy your insurance plan and or spend a bunch of money fixing teeth I don't want anymore. She looked so offended by me but finally printed the quote out and proceeded to go over all the different cost of things that get done during the procedure.

I know clinics use this tactic to make people think there is a reason for the giant inflation for the cost of the procedure. However I've been in the insurance billing industry for 20+ years and big procedures such as this that are considered a "surgery" in the medical sense, have a BUNDLED rate. 1 charge that covers say teeth extraction for full mouth restoration. Which is considerably less than the regular price of 1 tooth getting pulled times how many teeth you have. 1 charge for any supplies needed for the procedure that is less than if you billed separately on separate visits. And so on. This is the reason my quoted price was double what I had expected and what their website currently lists is the price. This is false advertising and when they operate in this way they waste people's time when they do. Be Honest what the cost is and stop trying to deceive people. How you get $80 grand for 8 implants and 2 sets of dentures when 1 implant is $2000 - $3500 is crazy and it is no wonder people can't afford to fix their teeth.

Beware! They are in it for your money. Went in for a routine visit and was told I needed some extra expensive "deep cleaning" and when I met with the billing person I found out that it would be over a thousand dollars (after insurance) just for a cleaning! They are not looking out for your interests, just their own bottom line. If you can go anywhere else I would highly recommend that.

The staff was very friendly and thorough. They put together a dental plan. However when it got to be time to make arrangements to get the dental work done they wanted to be paid for multiple visits at once. I wanted to pay for one visit at a time. I think a person should look elsewhere for dental care unless you like to over pay.
