I’ve been a customer since 2021. I have paid thousand a of dollars to these people even with my insurance. When I couldn't find a ride on time to my 9 am appointment , I called them and said I’ll be late 8 min. Instead of 9. 08 I was there at 9.

15. They cancelled my appointment without telling me and charged me $50. Still in surprise how they treat their 4 year old customers. That $50 will be my last payment for Athens Smiles.

Quite honestly the worst experience I have ever had with a dentist. I was told over a year ago when I first came in that my X-rays showed radiographic bone loss and that I had beginning stage periodontal disease and that I ABSOLUTELY needed this special cleaning or I would have much more severe dental work needed in my future. I was assured that my insurance covered part of the cost. And they did, but the insurance denied the claim because they said the procedure wasn't necessary. I obviously thought the insurance company was just trying to avoid paying their portion so I submitted the claim to the insurance Commisioner's, they said the same thing : I did not need the procedure. Finally I had my family members who are dentists look at my X-rays, and they said unequivocally that I did not have any radiographic bone loss that would suggest periodontal disease and that at the very worse, based on my X-rays, I might have had gingivitis.

I made an appointment with Dr. Clay to talk about this, since I still owe the practice $270 at this point (over $600 total, this is the portion the insurance didn't cover). She was 35 mins late to meeting with me and brought a hygienist into the room who I'd never seen before and when I told her the discrepancy she said, "Hmm, that's interesting", then left the room, and had the hygienist escort me to the front to settle up my bill with the front desk. Fast forward to today. I was told by the previous front desk manager that if I paid half of my bill then we could be done with what I owed them, but unfortunately the previous manager no longer works there anymore and I'm still getting bills for the $119 that I still owe. And if I don't pay it I'll be getting sent to collections.

So thanks to fear mongering me into thinking my teeth were going to fall out this clinic got a nice little $600 out of me. Oh and I should mention, that every person I've talked to who goes to this place has also been told they had beginning periodontal disease and had the same procedure as me. Or some other botched procedure. So unless you don't care about your wallet or ethical practices, stay away from this place.

Athens Smiles is professional, courteous, and always made me feel at ease. Their office is modern, clean, and comfortable—everything you’d want in a dental practice. I’m moving out of town and will really miss being a patient here. Highly recommend!

I have had good and bad experiences with this practice. The dental assistants and hygienists are the best, so kind, so patient, so gentle. The office staff is wonderful. My problem is with the dentists. The first time I went to a male dentist. He was horrible. He hurt me so badly. My cheek was raw and swollen from him hitting it with the drill. I kept telling him he was hurting me, but he didn't care.

So I was promised to go to Dr. Clay and they said she was wonderful. She was very nice to begin with. I had no real concerns until one day when I needed a crown. It was a horrible experience. I could not get numb for anything. After three hours in the chair, I told her that my bite was off. She worked and worked on it and it would never get right. Until she did one last ditch effort and it seemed ok.

She said, "Well now you won't be able to grind your food and walked out," When I went back, she denied it. She said everything was fine when I had terrible headaches. After suffering from a bad bite with constant headaches, I went to another dentist and that dentist was appalled at the mess my crown was in. It cost me $400 more. . My headaches were gone that same night, but I still have sensitivity in that damn crown. So in conclusion, I would say it is a crap shoot at how you will be treated, but I wish I never went there.
