Detailed Introduction

Atlanta Oral & Facial Surgery (AOFS) is a prominent and well-established oral and maxillofacial surgery practice that has been serving the Metro Atlanta area since 1980. Founded with the goal of providing an exceptional patient experience through clinical excellence and efficient business processes, AOFS has grown significantly to become one of the largest oral surgery groups of its kind in the United States. The practice boasts a large team of highly skilled professionals, including 27 board-certified oral surgeons, a board-certified aesthetics surgeon, an Ear, Nose, & Throat MD, and a specialist in TMJ diagnosis and treatment, operating across 25 conveniently located offices throughout the region. This extensive network allows them to serve a wide patient base and maintain high standards of care. AOFS offers a comprehensive array of oral and maxillofacial surgical services. Their primary specialties include: Dental Implants: Providing state-of-the-art solutions for replacing missing teeth, often with same-day placement of temporary teeth. They utilize advanced technology like 3D cone beam CT scans for precise treatment planning. Wisdom Teeth Removal: Expert extraction of third molars, minimizing discomfort and promoting swift recovery. Corrective Jaw Surgery (Orthognathic Surgery): Addressing misaligned jaws to improve facial appearance, bite function, and overall oral health. Bone Grafting: Procedures to rebuild and strengthen jawbone density, often a prerequisite for dental implant placement. TMJ Disorders: Diagnosis and treatment for temporomandibular joint issues, alleviating pain and improving jaw function. Facial Trauma: Skilled management of injuries to the face and jaws. Oral Pathology: Diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the mouth. A unique aspect of AOFS is their commitment to patient advocacy and streamlining the often complex insurance and administrative processes. They participate in a broad range of insurance plans, including Medicaid, and have a dedicated Central Service Center (CSC). This CSC handles administrative duties, allowing the surgical staff in each office to focus entirely on patient comfort, safety, and surgical care. AOFS is dedicated to staying at the forefront of their industry, embracing innovative methods and technological advancements such as digital x-rays and 3D imaging for enhanced surgical planning and predictable outcomes. Beyond clinical practice, their surgeons are actively involved in volunteer and philanthropic activities, demonstrating a commitment to giving back to the communities they serve. Patient testimonials frequently highlight the compassionate, professional, and efficient care received, often noting minimal discomfort and excellent post-operative support.

I went to Dr. Velez on November 24, 2020 for a surgical extraction of a canine tooth in his Roswell office. In my 80 years it is my 5th or 6th visit to an oral surgeon. I had the worst experience. His one leg was in cast. It was resting on a chair platform. He was ambulating on a mobile chair. You would like to have a surgeon who had his/her both feet planted/secured on the floor. Not one foot on a roller skate. The tooth had a cavity. It broke.

The tooth pieces, tools, and other things flew and fell on the floor. He was kind of struggling. I had forewarned him about my needing more local anesthesia. He was cavalier about it. He did not give enough time for the topical anesthetic to work. It was really a painful experience for me. While I was half-dazed on the operating table, I was reminded of a movie where Sir Laurence Olivier was a dentist pulling a tooth of Dustin Hoffman. I was not given enough time to fully recover before I was shown the door. I am not going to him again. He should recuse himself from surgery where he has to use a lot of strength for tooth extraction. He should take a vacation till he is firmly on his own feet .

PS. Today [ Dec 18, 2020], I got an e-mail from Leslie Mirabella, Insurance coordinator. She has sent the image of my teeth which I requested long ago. . And she also promised to send my money back. It does not take the pain away. But the fact remains that the doctor crossed the ethical line when he went to the surgery table to extract my tooth knowing fully well he was not in his best form. I also believe that I would not have been in so much pain during extraction if he allowed more TIME for the anesthetic to work its magic. Felt like an assembly line operation. Only thing good about this is that my bad tooth is out.

This office won't even return voice mails. Had emergency situation; left voice mails *during office hours* two different days. Zero response.

Dr Velez is wonderful, but the office staff--especially billing is atrocious. Rude and incompetent. We paid for our daughters wisdom tooth extraction in full and she gets harassing emails, texts and phone calls daily asking for payment. Do your due diligence regarding insurance and payment prior to working with this office

What a great doctor Dr. Martin Velez is! I had a wonderful experience with my wisdom tooth extraction. He immediately addressed my concerns and removed the tooth with local anesthesia. There was no wait time, and the staff was friendly.
