Detailed Introduction

The CAMC Dental Center operates under the umbrella of the Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) Health System, a prominent and extensive healthcare network in West Virginia. CAMC itself is a not-for-profit system comprising multiple hospitals, and since 2022, it has been part of Vandalia Health, a larger system spanning West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. This affiliation signifies that the dental center benefits from the resources and integrated care approach of a major health organization. CAMC's dentistry department provides a comprehensive suite of dental services. These services are recognized as crucial for overall health, extending beyond just nutrition to impact areas like heart and brain health. The center is equipped with on-site dental treatment rooms and laboratories, which streamlines care for patients, especially those who are hospitalized. Key services offered include general dentistry (exams, cleanings, fillings, crowns, bridges), Pediatric Dentistry (routine check-ups, traumatic injury care, surgeries, with a child-friendly environment), and specialized oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The oral and maxillofacial surgery department addresses a wide range of conditions affecting the head, neck, face, and mouth. This can involve common procedures like wisdom teeth removal and dental implants, as well as complex surgeries for conditions such as cleft lip and palate, craniosynostosis, and facial trauma. CAMC's Cleft and Craniofacial Center is notably the first recognized by the American Cleft Palate Association in West Virginia, offering comprehensive management for congenital and acquired deformities. The center emphasizes a patient-centered approach, providing compassionate and high-quality services in a professional and friendly environment.

Firstly, I would like to say I have been a patient several times at this location. The Dr’s were very nice, professional, and allowed adequate time for treatment. On the other hand I have had considerable aount of unprofessional behavior and comments from the scheduling department of this particular office i. e. including being hung up on by the receptionist Trina. As a patient you understand that sometimes paperwork is lost or appointments not scheduled, this issue became when I was sent for a root canal treatment to an accompanying dentist. After the completion of my root canal, I was then notified by the Dr. Bouhstani(?) herself that the CAMC Dental office would make an Follow-up appointment for my crown. That follow-up appointment was never made- I had the same previous issue with time elapsing due to not having an appointment.

When I asked which Dr I was referred to, the commentary I received was “How do you not know your own doctor”? Well, it had been almost two years so of course I did not know. When I stated that I she was being unprofessional she became very combative and talked over my explanation of events. I figured she would be nice or even professional enough to one look on the screen and let me know whom I saw. This did not happen. Again, she has done this to me personally several times over the course of two years. I do not know rather it is me or just the confrontation of honesty on my part as to why my appointments consistently go unscheduled. The first occasion I was given the reasons of “Our Printers/Fax” has been down. Okay I understand. The particular time in question today the reason I was given for my appointment not being scheduled was “They never received the information from root canal being completed,so she did not schedule an appointment.

This is when she began to overtalk my inquiry of if she could call/fax information to Dr (root canal) and get the records. I simply was not allowed to speak, was told I was being rude hung up on any aggressively handled. After completed procedures I will no longer be a patient-if possible I will search for another facility. Trina has a very bad bedside manner and I consider her very unprofessional. As a whole, the office is great. However, new office assistants may be needed. People are to be treated with respect, and patients should be allowed to voice their concerns as well as receive assistance in a cordial and professional manner.
