Detailed Introduction

The Center for Family Health - Dental, located at 500 N Jackson St, Jackson, MI 49201, is a key component of the larger Center for Family Health organization. This facility operates as a comprehensive dental clinic, dedicated to providing accessible and high-quality oral healthcare services to individuals of all ages – children, teens, and adults. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) since 2000, the Center for Family Health - Dental adheres to rigorous federal standards, ensuring that care is not only high-quality but also affordable, often offering a sliding fee scale based on income and family size. This commitment to affordability extends to accepting Medicaid and most private insurance plans, aiming to break down barriers to healthcare access within the community. Their dental services are extensive, covering a wide spectrum of general and preventative care. This includes routine check-ups, thorough oral examinations, X-rays, professional cleanings, and fluoride treatments. For restorative needs, they provide fillings (both composite and amalgam), crowns, bridges, and full and partial dentures. The clinic also handles tooth extractions, including wisdom teeth, and offers root canal therapy. Importantly, they are equipped to address dental emergencies, such as tooth and gum pain, swelling, bleeding, and broken or knocked-out teeth. While they provide limited oral surgery, they do not offer orthodontic (braces) treatment. The Center for Family Health emphasizes a patient-centered approach, aiming to make dental experiences comfortable and safe, especially for children. They offer nitrous oxide to alleviate anxiety in younger patients and focus on educating families about healthy oral habits from a young age. Integrating dental care with other medical services offered by the Center for Family Health promotes coordinated and comprehensive health care for their patients. The Center for Family Health - Dental is actively involved in the community, reflecting its mission to enhance the health of the communities it serves. As an FQHC, a significant part of their ethos is providing care to underserved and medically vulnerable populations. They also engage in community outreach and education, and accept donations to further their mission of "Opening the Door to Healthcare for All." Their hours are designed to accommodate patients, with extended hours on Tuesdays.

I came in as an emergency patient to get a filling. My tooth chipped a couple days prior. I requested another numbing shot because I know my body requires that. I've had enough fillings to know that is what my body needs to I made my needs known. The dentist argued with me insisting I did not need the extra shot. I said again "I would prefer another numbing shot, please" and she continues to argue with me. She rudely asks me if I would like to go to a different dentist as though my request was uncalled for.

I said "I am going to leave because you are not believing me. " She did not apologize but kept asking me if I would like referrals to a different dentist. I left in tears. I will not be going back. Anyone who touches another persons body should have better respect for people's needs.

I took my daughter to their walk in clinic for a fever almost 104. They did Covid/Flu test and it was negative. They said it is just a virus. Fever came down with Tylenol and Motrin. After a 6 hour period, her fever would spike back up. Took her back to the clinic. Very condescendingly was told it's just a virus.

We are on day 4 of a fever spiking to 103. I took her to U of M/Sparrow. They did a strep test and it came back positive. A parents intuition is always right, and I am refusing to bring my children back. I am pulling all of my family and going back to U of M. This could have been avoided if the doc did due diligence and listened to me and my daughter.

If you’re trying to get in as a new patient may as well not even bother and just try to find somewhere else. I have been trying to get an appointment as a new patient for years. Apparently their process of your a new patient is to have you call first thing in the morning and pray there is a same day opening (you can t just schedule for the next available) if they don’t then you have to continue to call throughout the day and hope they have an opening.

I’m a single mom on a single income I can’t miss work hoping for a same day appointment. The last time I tried to call and get an appointment I let them know I was going through a dental emergency and had chipped a tooth and after they told me they couldn’t get me in and I asked where do I go that I wasn’t sure about my insurance the girl laughed at me and told me to contact the HR office where I work… I’m scheduled with aspen dental for Tuesday. Don’t even waste your time with center for family health dental.

Aspen worked with me to figure out my insurance and has programs set up to make payments of I didn’t… Center for family dental you should be ASHAMED of the way you treat the community you rely on!
