CHASS Center

The CHASS Center, also known as the Community Health and Social Services Center, Inc., is a long-standing, non-profit organization deeply rooted in the Detroit community. Founded over 55 years ago, it was established in response to a critical need for healthcare access in Southwest Detroit, following the closure of several community hospitals. Its core mission is to develop, promote, and provide comprehensive, accessible, and affordable quality primary healthcare and support services to all residents, with a particular focus on underserved African-American and Latino communities. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), CHASS Center plays a vital role in the healthcare landscape, serving a significant number of uninsured and underinsured patients annually. Their services encompass a broad spectrum of care, including general primary medical care, dental services, behavioral health support, and a full-service pharmacy. They also offer specialized programs such as prenatal care, including a community-based doula program aimed at improving maternal and infant health outcomes. CHASS Center's commitment extends beyond direct medical care. They actively engage in community involvement and outreach, collaborate with other community agencies to provide supportive social services, and cooperate with other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care. They also participate in research to better understand and address the health needs of the community. The center accepts a wide range of patients, regardless of their ability to pay, and works with those who are uninsured, as well as those with Medicaid and Medicare.
