Detailed Introduction

Clarkston Pediatric Dentistry is a dedicated dental clinic located at 6401 Citation Dr A, Village of Clarkston, MI 48346, specializing in the oral health of children from birth through adolescence. Their approach emphasizes creating a friendly, fun, and reassuring atmosphere to ensure children have positive dental experiences, which is crucial for preventing dental phobias in adulthood. The clinic's staff is highly experienced in working with young patients, including those with medical or special needs, prioritizing both emotional sensitivity and clinical excellence. Services typically offered at a pediatric dental clinic like Clarkston Pediatric Dentistry include routine check-ups, professional cleanings, fluoride treatments, and dental sealants to prevent cavities. They also focus on educating children and parents about proper oral hygiene habits, good eating habits, and disease and trauma prevention. Pediatric dentists closely monitor the growth and development of a child's teeth and jaws to anticipate and address potential issues early, such as malocclusion (bad bite) or bruxism (teeth grinding). For children who experience anxiety, the clinic may offer sedation options like nitrous oxide ("laughing gas") to help them relax during procedures, making the visit less stressful and safer. The clinic aims to be a "dental home" where children feel comfortable and receive consistent, high-quality care throughout their developmental years. Patient testimonials often highlight the friendly staff, gentle approach, and the positive impact on children's attitudes towards dental visits.

I bring my kids to have their teeth cleaned every 6 months and it is always a positive experience. Our hygienist is so friendly and makes my kids feel comfortable. Dr. Walsh is amazing! He always talks to my kids about something unrelated to them being at the dentist. They really enjoy him.

He is thorough with their exam and is always very pleasant. The girls at the desk are super nice and we never have to wait more than a couple minutes for our appointment. I highly recommend this office.

My oldest son had a negative experience at our previous dentist, and we made the switch to Clarkston Pediatric. Best decision we could have made for our 3 kids. Have had no issues with any procedures and no tears coming out of the dentist office since we started going to Clarkston Ped. Staff is always kind and patient with the kids.

Dr. Walsh is great with the kids, and does a great job of explaining any issues or findings during the kids visits. Highly recommend for anyone with children.

We relocate often due to work, so I have been to 4 pediatric dentists in the last 6 years. When I arrived at Clarkston Pediatric Dentistry, I was startled by the condition of the facility. It is dismal and uninviting to say the least. Flooring and carpet are dirty and way overdue to be replaced. Walls were dirty and damaged, equipment such as the chairs and lights were old, and discolored. It sincerely felt like they are penny pinchers who are trying to get the last bit of life out of everything in the office.

I expected a sterile looking facility. There is one main room for all the dental chairs and so there is no privacy. This is also troublesome when kids are scared, crying, and you are trying to keep your kid calm. Lastly, I was disappointed with the visible impatience from staff. My child was told to raise his hand if he needed anything during the cleaning. He rose his hand several times due to discomfort.

Eventually his hand-raising was ignored just to get it done quickly. Would we do that to an adult? Why are children's concerns considered less valid because of their age? I went to a pediatric dentist because they are supposed to be more skilled at dealing with children. I left apologizing to my child for his experience and promising we would find a better place.

We switched to Clarkston Pediatric Dentistry after my oldest daughter had a difficult experience at a different (non-pediatric) dentist. Up until our most recent visit to this office for my middle daughter to get some fillings, I had no complaints. However, now, I have a lot of complaints. She had been in the office a few weeks prior for her first of several appts for fillings. That first appt went great. This last appt, they gave her gas, numbed her, and then left her for at least 15 min, if not longer.

When they came back and started to work on her, something was pinching, they resolved that issue but then a few min later, she started screaming and crying when they were using whatever tools make a lot of noise. Not sure if anyone bothered to ask her if she was feeling any pain. Instead, they had another person come in to hold her hands down while she continued to scream and cry. When my husband called me after the appt, my daughter was still very upset and crying. He said the experience was so bad, to the point he wanted to tell them to stop. I called the office to see what happened, because he said they wanted to “put her to sleep” for the next appt.

The person on the phone- who I believe was her hygienist that day- was less than empathetic. I felt as if her attitude about the situation was like “yep, it had to be done” all while she was saying they recommended in office sedation because they didn’t want to create a traumatic experience for her. I think it’s too late for that. We will not be returning.
