Detailed Introduction

Columbia Periodontal Associates is a specialized dental clinic with multiple locations in South Carolina, including Lexington and Columbia. The practice is a limited liability company (LLC) that has been in operation since 1998. The team, which includes Dr. Dustin Hedgpeth and Dr. Mark McEntire, focuses on periodontics, dental implants, and laser dentistry. Their services are designed to address a variety of periodontal needs, from the prevention and treatment of gum disease to complex surgical procedures. The clinic's offerings include dental implants for single or multiple missing teeth, laser periodontal therapy (LANAP), soft tissue and bone grafting, sinus lifts, and ridge augmentation. They also perform pocket reduction surgery to eliminate bacteria and smooth irregular bone surfaces, which helps the gum tissue reattach to the bone and reduces the risk of further damage. Columbia Periodontal Associates emphasizes patient education, aiming to keep clients fully informed and comfortable throughout their treatment. Their mission is to help patients achieve and maintain a healthy smile through comprehensive and compassionate care.

I have seen Dr. McEntire several times in the past for a consultation and he and everyone in the office were very nice and welcoming. When I came with an ailing implant issue a few months ago, they suggested a bone graft procedure to save the implant. The cost of the services was approximately $2,000. I paid $1,100 out of pocket and the remainder was covered by insurance. The procedure itself went as planned, but after the procedure there was a lot of pain and swelling.

Just a few months after the procedure, I noticed that the new bone graft began to dissolve, in some areas, it even seemed worse. I went to see Dr McEntire and he recommended a gum graft procedure, which was estimated to cost additional $1,700. While I understand that medical interventions come with inherent uncertainties, I find it reasonable to expect the treating professional to share in the associated risk. I reached out to the office to discuss my concerns and explore the possibility of a partial refund for the first procedure. I believe that since the procedure had not yielded the desired results, the office should be willing to share in the risk with me. Regrettably, my request for a partial refund or discount was denied by the office.

But given the outcome of the procedure and the subsequent need for additional intervention, there should have been a willingness to work together to find a fair resolution. Feeling unsure about proceeding with the same Periodontist, I sought a second opinion from a different practice. They confirmed that corrective measures are needed, and I am now faced with the prospect of incurring additional costs for the procedure to be done elsewhere. I want for others who read the review and consider this practice to be aware of the uncertainties involved and to know upfront that there are no guarantees after paying thousands of dollars for a procedure.

I've had nothing but good experience with Doc McEntire and recommend him to anyone who even mentions Periodontal work. I had several cracked molars from a lifetime of chewing ice (don't do it, kids), and have had a lot of dental work. Doc M has given me four implants.

I had trouble with two of them, but he called me in and helped me get fixed. When my minor son's dentist said he needed 6 (!) Implants (he was born without some of his adult teeth), we went to Doc M. I couldn't be happier with Columbua Periodontal, would recommend them, and Doc McEntire, to anyone

Don’t go to this periodontal group!! In December 2024 I went to this office to have a tooth looked at that had some bone and gum decay underneath. The tooth was also the tooth that anchored a partial. The Periodontist recommended removing the tooth and putting an implant in another location on my upper jaw to serve as the new anchor for the partial. When I asked how the partial would fit afterward he said “ Oh your regular dentist will take care of that”. My husband and I sat down with the finance dept manager and it was explained that the implant would cost $2684 and the tooth extraction would cost $83.

88 after insurance which I agreed to. No one explained that the implant “ crown” cost was not included and today they tell us that the crown would have to be ordered and applied to the post by my regular dentist nor did the periodontist explain that my regular dentist would have to create a new partial altogether. Not wanting to go through the terrible experience of being fitted for a new partial nor can we afford the cost of a new one including the implant crown I decided not to go through with the rest of the plan. My regular dentist yesterday told me that all I need is a Waterpik to keep the tooth in question free of decay and infection. This periodontal Group refuses to give us any refund nor apologize for the terrible communication breakdown through the whole process.

I’m filing a complaint with the BBB as well. My neighbor also went to this periodontal group and they wanted to charge her $5000 for an implant which she declined.

I was referred here for a periodontal consultation by my regular dentist. Dr. McEntire and his team are absolutely fantastic. He performed my LANAP surgery and he and his team went out of their way to make sure that I was comfortable and understood the process. When I still had some discomfort, his team made sure to get me in quickly and Dr.

McEntire immediately recognized and addressed the issue. I highly recommend Dr. McEntire and the rest of the staff at the Lexington location.
