Detailed Introduction

Community Health Care (CHC) is a well-established organization founded in 1975, and it stands as the largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in the state of Iowa. Located in Davenport, Iowa, the Davenport Dental Clinic is one of several medical and dental facilities operated by CHC across the Quad Cities area, serving a combined metropolitan area of over 400,000 residents. CHC's mission is to deliver excellent, patient-centered medical and dental care that is compassionate, affordable, and accessible to the communities it serves. This commitment extends to all patients, including those with Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, and those who are uninsured. A key aspect of their accessibility is the Sliding Fee Program, which offers reduced costs for services based on a patient's income and family size. The Davenport Dental Clinic provides a wide range of general dentistry services for all ages, from children (starting at six months old) to adults. These services include: Preventive care: Examinations, diagnostics, oral health education, teeth cleanings and polishing, and sealants for school-aged children. Restorative treatments: Cavity fillings and composites. Oral surgery: Tooth extractions. Emergency dental care. Other services: Nitrous for children, night guards, and space maintainers. The clinic is staffed by an experienced dental team comprising dentists, dental hygienists, and assistants. Many CHC dentists are Access to Baby and Child Dentistry (ABCD) certified, indicating specialized training in caring for very young children and expectant mothers. Beyond dental care, Community Health Care also provides integrated medical and behavioral health services, emphasizing a holistic approach to patient well-being. They offer translation services (including Spanish and Vietnamese on staff, and live video translation for 20 other languages) to ensure comprehensive care for diverse patient populations. CHC plays a crucial role in the community, serving as a primary care provider for individuals who might otherwise rely on emergency departments for their health needs or go without care entirely. They accept referrals from hospitals, medical offices, and emergency rooms, further cementing their role as a vital healthcare resource.

My husband and I took both our children to get a basic cleaning done with the pediatric dentist. One child was 2 years old the other had just turned 4 years old the day prior to the appointment. While we were waiting my husband went to use the restroom but our children got called back. I took our children back assuming my husband could meet us back there to help out with the toddlers. After we got back I was told that my 4 year old could not have a parent with her so my husband (her dad) could not come back for the appointment. The 4 year old looked very scared so we decided to cancel her appointment but then after a few mins she decided she wanted to try to be brave and do the appointment alone! So I let her go for it since I was just on the other side of the wall with her sister! A few mins into the appointment I hear crying so I give a min to see if they can calm her down but then I hear my child get told “you need to stop crying and be a big girl. Your sister isn’t crying be more like her.

” So I walk over to see her holding my child’s face down trying to put the thing in her mouth to give her x-rays. They did NOT inform us that they would be doing x-rays at the appointment and she had never had x-rays prior let alone be ALONE in any appointment because she just turned FOUR so she was freaked out. I then asked if they could get my husband so he could help with our 2 year olds appointment or take out my 4 year old to him. They told me no we needed to continue. So I’m not holding my 4year old who is crying and they start my 2 year olds appointment. The 2 year old hops up no problem but then the dr turns the bright light on right into her eyes with no sun glasses or anything and so now the 2 year old is freaking out. I’m having to hold my crying 2 year olds hands down while she gets her teeth cleaned and holding my crying 4 year old still.

As they are still for no reason at all refusing to get my husband (their dad). I never leave negative review but this experience was terrible. Now my children are terrified to go back to a dental office. Not only did they refuse to let a parent come back with their child but they thought a child that just turned four years old the DAY before the appointment needed to be alone in an appointment. (There was also no reason of concern to have the child away from us!) they did not communicate what was going to happen in the appointment, they weren’t going to come get me and they tried to hold down a child’s face for an unnecessary procedure that if I would have known was going to happen I would have told them to skip the x-rays this appointment since there was no concerns!!

Very rude, telling my sibling to shut up cause she’s not a baby (mind u she was 5), and wouldn’t let us in the room with her. Forgot to mention but they don’t have any open appointments till a year from now.
