Detailed Introduction

Community Health Centers Inc., often referred to as CHC Utah, is a vital non-profit healthcare organization serving communities across Utah. With a mission to provide accessible, high-quality, and affordable healthcare to all, regardless of their ability to pay, CHC Utah plays a crucial role in the state's healthcare landscape. The Neighborhood Medical Clinic in Salt Lake City is one of their established locations, reflecting their commitment to embedding healthcare services directly within the communities they serve. Established as part of the broader community health center movement that began in the United States in the 1960s, CHC Utah operates as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). This designation signifies their commitment to serving underserved populations and adhering to rigorous standards of care. FQHCs receive federal funding and are mandated to offer a sliding fee scale based on income, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent individuals from accessing necessary medical attention. The services offered at the Neighborhood Medical Clinic, like other CHC Utah locations, are comprehensive and integrated. They typically include: Primary Medical Care: Providing general health services, preventive care, chronic disease management, and acute illness treatment for individuals and families of all ages. Dental Services: Offering a range of dental care, from routine check-ups and cleanings to more complex procedures, addressing a significant need often unmet in underserved communities. Behavioral Health Services: Recognizing the interconnectedness of physical and mental well-being, they provide counseling, therapy, and support for mental health conditions. Pharmacy Services: Many CHC locations offer on-site or affiliated pharmacy services, often providing medications at a lower cost, which further enhances accessibility for patients. Enabling Services: Beyond direct clinical care, CHCs often provide support services such as health education, case management, translation services, and assistance with enrolling in health insurance programs, all designed to remove barriers to care. CHC Utah's patient-centered approach emphasizes treating the whole person and fostering long-term relationships between patients and their healthcare providers. They strive to create a "medical home" where patients can receive coordinated and continuous care. Their impact extends beyond individual patient care by contributing to the overall health and well-being of the communities they serve, often working to reduce health disparities and improve public health outcomes. They are dedicated to clinical excellence, innovation, and training the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Besides the fact that even having an appointment, you have to wait for almost an hour to see the doctor, my first contact with the Navajo Clinic was not that bad. I saw Dr. Slack, and she gave me an order to get a CT Scan done at the Intermountain Hospital. I was told not to call the hospital, that I needed to wait for them to call ME, to set up an appointment. I waited but nobody called me. After 4 weeks I decided to call the clinic to ask if it was normal to wait for a month, and Socorro told me it was normal and I needed to keep waiting for Intermountain to call. Another month went by, and I called the Clinic again, this time I spoke with somebody else, and she said that maybe the order was not received and resent it (really? After 2 months they decided to look into it??). My CT Scan was finally completed last Thursday, and the nurse at Intermountain told me to call Dr Slack if she didn’t contact me in 2 days (which made me think, it was something serious), so I called the Clinic on Monday, and I was told I had to wait.

No contact, so I decided to call again on Wednesday, and spoke to Susan. She told me Dr Slack was not in, but she was willing to send the Dr a message (message # 2 by the way). I explained to her that I was very concerned about my health and told her the whole story of my bad experience. She said that by own experience, she learnt not to listen to instructions, and I should’ve called Intermountain myself from the very beginning (so I guess it was my fault for following their instructions?). I also mentioned i was worried because the nurse told me to contact Dr Slack right away, and she responded that the nurse said that because most of the times, the doctors at the clinic don’t check the results. What?? Are you kidding me? I’ve been in pain for two months, sometimes I can even walk and unable to perform daily activities and they don’t check the results? She told me I needed to check my results through an application, so I downloaded Healow, but I was unable to get thorough because the Clinic has not set it up for me to use. Next day I received a message to my cell phone saying my results were normal. I called again today, spoke to Olga and asked if my CT Scan was “normal”, and she said that message was NOT referring to the CT Scan, but a lab test I did 2 months ago, and could not see any other info in my file.

I’m baffled about the lack of professionalism of these people. I tried to set an appt to see Dr. Slack, and Olga told me the only one available was on 4/15. I just went ahead and set an appt with some other Dr, so I can discuss the results of my CT Scan. I don’t think any of this is right.

I waited two and a half hours to see a doctor and she did not even provide the service requested (birth control). The receptionist wouldn’t take the insurance card on my phone and so I was billed the incorrect amount. I had to email the office and send them photos of my insurance card (the photos the receptionist originally denied) before they got it all sorted out.

They still billed me $100 even though it was a preventative visit.

Lee Rogers is a great provider. I love ❤️ the service I received. Very affordable for the income one makes. To be honest, people complain about the time they spend there to see the doctor but they don't understand that there are many people coming here because they too need low-income help.
