Rhonda is great and, if this review was only about her, there would be 5 stars. She has been my hygenist for decades. The Nelson Dental practice was great. Not crazy about the new business model though. I had a major treatment done that cost more than $1000. It was split into two visits each with a separate charge. I expected the charge so that is not the problem.

The first visit I paid with my credit card. The second visit, one week later, I was told that I would be charged the surcharge if I paid with a credit card, a "new policy". What the ????? I am giving them $1000 and they won't cover the surcharge for my using a credit card?? Really??? Also, they use some service to keep reminding me I "have an unresolved treatment plan. Please call and schedule an appointment" (I already had the appointment). Also, a "wagging my finger" email about not scheduling my routine cleaning (which is scheduled each time I have my cleaning). So, Rhonda is GREAT! I would follow her anywhere. The rest of the new "Delmar Family Dentistry" .

. . . not so much. Maybe it is "new business" pains but, after more than 3 decades with Nelson Dental Practice, I am disappointed.

I've stuck with this practice through 6 yrs of changes but have to lower my rating from 5 stars to 3 for two reasons: The practice has been a revolving door of dentists and assistants since Gary Nelson retired. Also front-office issues have become very frustrating.

It's nearly impossible to reach anyone by phone, calls are often not returned and the front-office staff is less friendly and welcoming than it used to be.

Sadly, I agree with others and can no longer give this group a five star rating. Since the retirement of Dr. Nelson Senior, the professionalism of the front office has declined dramatically. Rhonda is the best hygienist ever and we would truly follow her anywhere she practiced. Our last visit ended shortly after 5 PM and we were told by the office staff that payment could not be processed since the “system has shut down”.

She promised to send a text or email with the information for us to forward payment. A week later, when I received nothing, I called the office and asked if she had forgotten us. No apology was offered. She could not email a specific billing detail and told us to simply send a payment. She advised that the insurance carrier had already been notified and our remaining responsibility was on that document.

I explained a second time that since we are only in New York for 2 1/2 months, that document was sent to our home address out of state and therefore we had no access to that documentation. When I asked for the office address to at least send our payment (Without any actual billing statement in our hand ) she did not even know the ZIP Code for Delmar! This is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. Customer Service in this facility is severely lacking, and could be detrimental, regardless of how good the dental services themselves may be.

There are dentists much closer to my home, but I happily drive 40 minutes to Delmar because Rhonda is such a wonderful hygienist. Dr. Khattak is great too. I have had excellent care from them and would not go anywhere else.
