Everyone is professional and very nice. I had a good experience. When I got to my appointment, the front staff(Gao and Adriana) knew my name and greeted me with smiles. After some preliminary questions and filling out paperwork, I sat in the clean and quiet waiting room. My name was called and I went to the dentist chair. The assistant informed the dentist would be in shortly. I'm was nervous about teeth sensitivity and did feel a little anxious.

Once my procedure started, I experienced some sensitivity. I'm so glad the dentist noticed right away. She took steps to help ease my pain in a calming voice. Once the procedure was done, they made sure I knew about post procedure care. During the process, I was glad the staff were very warm and welcoming and the dentist was attentive to my needs. I had a great experience.

Disappointing Experience – Feels Like a Sales Pitch, Not a Dental Practice I was new to the neighborhood and received a brochure in the mail from Designing Smiles offering a $49 introductory appointment. I figured it was a good way to get established with a local dentist. The initial appointment seemed fine—cleaning, X-rays, and no immediate concerns. However, shortly after, I received an email outlining a long list of cosmetic procedures they recommended to “enhance my overall appearance. ” I was surprised, since I hadn’t been told during the visit that anything was wrong with my teeth. The recommendations were extensive and expensive. I responded that I wasn’t interested, but I still planned to keep up with my routine visits.

At my next appointment, they again recommended additional treatments—this time less cosmetic and more "preventative"—claiming they could eventually impact my bite, snoring, and sleep. Once more, I declined. But by my third appointment, I was told I suddenly had three cavities—in my front teeth, which seemed odd, since I’ve never had a cavity before in my life. I decided to get a second opinion without revealing I was doing so. The new dentist found no signs of cavities—not in those front teeth, not anywhere. After I told them where the supposed cavities were, they looked again and confirmed: nothing. They also commented that I have beautiful, healthy teeth.

What concerns me most is that if I had gone ahead with the recommended fillings—especially since they were on front teeth and not covered by insurance (unless I used amalgam, which I didn’t want)—it would have cost me around $1,000 out of pocket for work I apparently didn’t need. In my experience, this practice feels more focused on upselling cosmetic procedures than on providing honest dental care. I walked in with healthy teeth and left feeling pressured and suspicious. Be very careful if they recommend expensive treatments—get a second opinion. I won’t be going back.

I have been a patient of Dr Fung’s for over 20 years and have been generally satisfied with her services. However I have now left due to her aggressive tactics around periodontal services which have not been covered by my insurance now or into the future. I had a second opinion on my periodontal status which is less significant than what she assessed. I have tried to settle the outstanding invoice but she has sent it to a collection agency.

I have also filed a complaint with the MN Board of Dentistry about this situation. Beware if you are being pushed into periodontal services.
