Detailed Introduction

The East Carolina University (ECU) School of Dental Medicine operates a Community Service Learning Center (CSLC) in Ahoskie, North Carolina, as part of its innovative statewide initiative to address the shortage of dental professionals and improve oral health access in rural and underserved areas. This facility functions as a comprehensive dental clinic, providing a wide range of general dental services to the local community. The Ahoskie CSLC is integral to ECU School of Dental Medicine's educational model. Fourth-year dental students and residents gain invaluable hands-on experience by providing patient care under the supervision of experienced faculty. This unique approach allows students to encounter diverse patient populations and dental needs, fostering a deep understanding of community-based healthcare. The center is equipped with modern technology, including digital radiography and 3-D/Cone Beam Imaging, and continually updates its capabilities with support from foundations like the Roanoke Chowan Foundation, which recently enabled the acquisition of equipment for moderate sedation and a new Primescan Connect camera for enhanced digital dentistry. Services offered at the Ahoskie CSLC include, but are not limited to, comprehensive general dentistry, children's dentistry, oral surgery (extractions), root canals, sealants and tooth-colored fillings, crowns and bridges, dentures and partial dentures, implant services, periodontal services and cleanings, and cosmetic tooth whitening. The clinic is committed to offering care in a safe, caring, and professional setting. It welcomes Medicaid and other insurance plans, and payment for services is due at the time of treatment, with assistance provided for claim submission. Emergency services are available on a walk-in basis. The Ahoskie CSLC operates as an operational partner with the Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center, highlighting its collaborative approach to regional health needs. The center's mission aligns with the broader vision of the ECU School of Dental Medicine: to lead the nation in community-based oral health education, research, patient care, and service, with a strong focus on preparing leaders passionate about serving the underserved and enhancing oral health services for all North Carolinians.

You are only allowed to miss two appointments, I missed my first one at my own fault and the second one they changed my date and didn't tell me I went on the day I was scheduled and they said you missed two appointments. I'd recommend another though I thought they were good at first.

Staff was very warm and friendly, I was very nervous about getting my wisdom tooth extracted but the whole surgery staff made me very comfortable and kept me informed before anything was done, I was very satisfied and would recommend to family and friends.

Clinically, it's a good visit; administratively, you may run into an issue if you're not already a patient. They accept new patients on the 1st of the month and you only have a 15 minute window to try to get in. 2 weeks ago I sat in the waiting room for 2 days bc I had a cracked tooth that needed immediate extraction. They performed the surgery and offered bridge work for missing teeth as I am diabetic and it's crucial that I'm able to eat.

I was told to call between 8AM & 8:15 to become a regular patient so I could complete the care I need. Today, 6/1, I began calling at 7:55AM to become a patient and the line stayed busy until 9AM. I called a total of 14x today and left a voice-mail only to be told that I could not be helped once I called for the 15th and final time. **EDIT** Today is 8/1 and I began calling at 7:58AM to, again, try to become a new patient.

I called a total of 37x until 8:10AM to finally get through and be told that they aren't accepting new patients due to lack of providers. Save your time & energy and just don't bother with this place.

I went to this place. They filled my bottom teeth every two weeks I had to go. I went to guy drill a hole in my tooth never put a filling in. It had to go back two weeks later. Ask him why I was hosting my mouth hurting so bad they had to put a feeling in it. They pulled all my top teeth in June is December 16 and I still have no teeth they told me 4 to 6 weeks. It’s been seven months.

I go every two weeks and do what they asked me to do other than having the flu. I could not show up but then they tell me they don’t fit my mouth. They ain’t that big even though I talk a lot of junk my mouth ain’t that big. He want me to give them some teeth that they gave me a while back they don’t fit my mouth. They told me to discontinue because they couldn’t fix them to see if they fit my mouth I would not recommend this place now I’m without teeth because I told them they need to get them right or find somebody that can. That’s true. If you can’t do your job you need to get somebody else to do it because going seven months with no teeth through the summer and the holidays is kind of ridiculous, but they have no care in their life.

I’ve been very patient until the woman got very smart mouth with me today and I refuse to me being a patient to be talked to that way or treated that way for the mistakes that they make not my my doing the mistakes is the mistakes, I understand but they going to pull teeth out of peoples mouth. They need to know what they’re doing. I’ve picked 57 pieces of bone tooth or whatever out of my mouth. That is ridiculous. Good luck if you don’t believe this, I can show you some pictures.
