Detailed Introduction

The East Carolina University (ECU) School of Dental Medicine - Lillington, NC, is a Community Service Learning Center (CSLC) that operates as a full-service dental clinic. It is one of eight such centers established by ECU's School of Dental Medicine across North Carolina, specifically designed to address oral healthcare disparities in rural and underserved areas while providing essential hands-on training for dental students. The Lillington CSLC offers comprehensive general dental services, including children's dentistry, oral surgery (extractions), root canals, sealants and tooth-colored fillings, crowns and bridges, dentures and partial dentures, implant services, periodontal services and cleanings, cosmetic tooth whitening, digital radiography, and 3-D/Cone Beam Imaging. The clinic is committed to providing care in a safe, caring, and professional setting. Fees are considerably lower than most private dental offices, and they welcome Medicaid and other insurance plans, assisting with claim submissions. Emergency services are available on a walk-in basis during operating hours, and after-hours emergency services are provided for patients of record. Beyond patient care, a core mission of the ECU School of Dental Medicine, exemplified by its CSLCs like Lillington, is to educate and prepare future dentists with a strong commitment to public service. Fourth-year dental students complete significant clinical rotations (27 weeks) at these centers, gaining invaluable experience in a real-world, community-based setting. This innovative educational model has garnered national recognition for its focus on training dentists to care for underserved populations. The Lillington center not only provides critical dental care to its community but also plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of dental professionals dedicated to improving oral health across North Carolina. The clinic operates Monday through Friday, with slightly varied hours on Wednesdays.

They canceled on my 3rd appointment after pulling my teeth and doing x-rays on 2nd appointment. Was supposed to get me in for a cleaning so they could work on getting me a partial and getting my teeth fixed but canceled and now can’t see me for 2 months to get a Cleaning?!! Dentist promised me they would work fast because he understood. I have teeth missing this is so unacceptable.

They have put me in a really bad spot and have added more stress to an already stressful situation.

I would not recommend ECUS dental. My 1st appointment I thought was a wonderful experience. My 2nd appointment was a disaster. I arrived 15 mins before my appointment as policy stated. Cool, I understand sometimes provider run late. Fine! But how late? I was sitting an extra 30 mins. The front receptionist did not communicate at all what was going on. Dr would come from the back to call other patients that was only sitting for 2-5 mins max. I’m ask the receptionist what is going on? She then responded my dr is running a little behind. Cool still waiting. 3 more patients check in, and we’re seen less than 2 mins….

Remind you I’m still sitting. Ok so I’m speaking out… hey did you guys forget about me?…. Receptionist response…. “The dr is still working on another patients”. My response, can I not see another available Dr?? . Nooo that was a problem. I get call to the back and I’m explaining what’s going on. Ms Linda Mclaurin “business manager” decides to come out of her office and start saying “she can tell I’m frustrated, and I need to calm down…. . than stated I’m not fit to be a patient here because I have questions and concerns. Than McLaurin say she read notes from my 1st appointment how they couldn’t please me, and stated I was being “difficult” all because I had questions on what was getting done, what will the codes be….

etc… So I can have a better understanding towards my insurance. So I stated to Ms Linda I didn’t know it was against the law to ask question that I had some concerns about. Ms Linda McLaurin decides I’m not a good fit of a patient there. Not only did she miss judge me. She assume way different of me before she even knew who I was. I feel as if they are here to help with payments arrangements, but do not care how the patients feel. but why treat me differently because I decided not to get any work done my 1st appointment?. I was the problem. Never and I mean never should someone make you feel as if you shouldn’t ask appropriate question especially if the money is coming out of your pockets.
