I spent $350 out of pocket just to be told I needed a $10,000 procedure (also to be paid up front and out of pocket) that I ultimately did not need. Allow me to explain. When I was referred and booking my consultation, the receptionist said the cost for the consult was $500, to which I responded, "That's fine, I have dental insurance that covers periodontal work. " She then explained I would be sent an e-mail with a link to complete the new patient forms and I would be asked for my insurance information and if there was any portion my insurance did not cover, they would let me know. I immediately completed the forms and never heard another word. I go to my consult appointment and Dr. Cooke first met with me to ask me a series of questions both medical and general before doing the oral exam. The exam itself is very comprehensive and gum measurements are taken. Then I'm told he has to create a treatment plan and I need to return in a week. I go to schedule the follow-up and the receptionist tells me I owe them $500 right then. I explain to her what I was told on the phone and that I have insurance that should cover this.
She was quite unfriendly and rude to me at this point and told me the policy was that the patient pay them in full, up front, and then any portion the insurance pays would be reimbursed to me by the insurance company. She also said I would have been told this and clearly did not believe me that I was not. Now, I work in HR and deal with employee insurance everyday and know this is completely untrue. Insurance companies do not reimburse the insured person, they pay the medical facility. I awkwardly but politely told her I did not have $500 just on my person at all times and I would not pay the full amount without it running through insurance first. She treated me like I was dirt and pressured me to pay "at least a portion" at my follow-up appointment. At that point, frankly, I should have never went back. This is unacceptable and no one should be treated like a necessary medical treatment is a spa service. I did the legwork myself to find out that because Fox River Periodontics is a "specialty clinic" they don't work with any insurance companies to provide discounts and therefore my plan could only cover a portion of the total and my responsibility was $350. As promised, I paid my portion at the follow-up appointment where Dr. Cooke informs me I would need LANAP laser treatment in 3 of my 4 quadrants and rooting and planing in the 4th.
He explained how the laser option would only require 1 procedure with much less pain, shorter recovery time, and no sutures. He did very briefly go over the alternative, (significantly less expensive), option but only focused on the negatives of that option and greatly suggested the LANAP would be the best choice. Then he leads me into another room with the finance woman. Now, shockingly, this woman was the most pleasant and least arrogant and judgemental person I encountered at this clinic. She explained the $10,000 price tag of the procedure and finance options, which were only one: charge it! (The new way to extort people for medical bills, a line of credit that charges you an obscene amount of interest if you can't pay it off in 1 year. ) I thanked her for her time and never went back. After many, many months of searching and phone calls and headaches, I found another option where I could receive this LANAP treatment that would be in-network with my insurance and wouldn't try to con me into paying upfront. And the punchline is that after my consult there, the dentist does not believe my perio disease severe enough to warrant LANAP and the cost for my treatment now is $37. So I would highly encourage anyone to find someplace else that doesn't treat their patients like a cash grab.

I had LANAP surgery and my recovery is going very well. One day after and I don't even need to take aspirin. A pleasant surprise. Liquid diet for a few days abd then mashed potatoes and yogurt on the horizon...but all is well.

Dr. Cooke performed a gum graft for me about seven weeks ago. The procedure was quick and the results have been fantastic. I would definitely recommend Fox River Periodontics.

This was my 4th visit including an intro visit, oral surgery, and two follow up visits. I have at least two more follow up visits over the next 5-6 months for cleanings. My experince was top notch! Everyone here is very freindly, knowledgeable, experienced, and helpful. They take the time to listen to all of your questions and concerns. They are patient and kind and explain all they will do very thoroughly so that you know exactly what to expect. Dr.
Cooke is very good at what he does- he knows what he's doing. I had really no pain during and after my procedure. All you have to do is pay attention, and do what they ask you to do. I would recommend anyone to Fox River Periodontics.
