Future Smiles

Future Smiles is a prominent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Las Vegas, Nevada, committed to addressing the critical need for oral healthcare among the region's underserved youth. Established in 2009, their core mission is to provide comprehensive dental prevention and restorative services to children who might otherwise lack access to such vital care. The organization operates primarily through two key programs: a mobile School-Based Sealant Program and a dedicated Dental Restorative Facility, the Nevada Women's Philanthropy (NWP) Dental Wellness Center. The mobile program involves a team of dental hygienists and assistants who bring portable dental units directly into public schools, effectively removing common barriers like transportation and missed school time. This "on-the-go" model is crucial for reaching a large number of at-risk students and providing essential preventive services such as dental sealants and fluoride treatments, which are highly effective in preventing tooth decay. At the NWP Dental Wellness Center, Future Smiles offers a wider range of services, including dental diagnoses, restorative treatments (like fillings and minor extractions), and general cleanings. This facility serves as a "dental home" for many children in Southern Nevada, providing consistent and comprehensive care under the supervision of licensed dentists. Future Smiles is dedicated to making dental care accessible and affordable. They provide services at low or no cost, often working with Medicaid-eligible children and relying on support from private philanthropy and foundations for uninsured, low-income youth. Beyond direct treatment, they emphasize oral health education, providing resources and guidance to students and families on proper brushing, flossing, and nutrition. They also offer case management and care navigation services, connecting families with community partners for pro bono or reduced-cost procedures beyond their direct offerings. Since its inception, Future Smiles has significantly impacted the community, having provided dental services to over 200,000 at-risk youth in Nevada. They actively collaborate with schools, community centers, and other organizations to maximize their reach and effectiveness. Their commitment extends to advocating for the importance of oral health as a fundamental aspect of a child's overall well-being, recognizing its impact on a child's ability to sleep, learn, eat, and thrive.
