John D. Harker, DDS

Dr. John D. Harker, DDS, was a prominent and highly esteemed dentistry practitioner based in Hope, Indiana. He established his practice in 1973 after graduating from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1971 and serving a short period in New Mexico. Dr. Harker dedicated over 50 years to providing dental care to the Hope community, often serving multiple generations of families. He was known for his personable approach, honesty, and willingness to go above and beyond for his patients, even in emergency situations. His commitment to patient well-being earned him numerous accolades, including Fellowship, Mastership, and Emeritus awards from the Academy of General Dentistry. While Dr. Harker retired from active practice in late 2020, his legacy and patient-focused approach continue. His dental practice at 9909 IN-9, Hope, IN 47246, is now managed by his former partner, Dr. Jarod Gearhart, and operates under the name Gearhart Family Dentistry. This transition ensures continuity of care for the long-standing patients and the community. Gearhart Family Dentistry at this location continues to offer general dentistry services, maintaining the high standards of care established by Dr. Harker. Beyond his dental career, Dr. Harker was also a dedicated community leader, having served 31 years on the Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Board and being a lifelong member of Hope Moravian Church. He also owned and operated a cattle farm.
