Detailed Introduction

Lackey Clinic is a highly-regarded, faith-based nonprofit healthcare center located at 1620 Old Williamsburg Rd, Yorktown, VA 23690, serving the Virginia Peninsula. Established in 1995 by Jim and Cooka Shaw, the clinic was founded on a divine calling to provide free healthcare to the medically disadvantaged. It has grown from humble beginnings in a church to a freestanding facility, continuously expanding its services to meet community needs. Lackey Clinic's primary mission is to deliver skilled, compassionate healthcare and counseling to medically disadvantaged adults in a manner that honors Jesus Christ. They specifically cater to uninsured adults in Virginia whose income levels fall between qualifying for Virginia Medicaid and being able to afford quality private health insurance, typically those earning between $12-$25 an hour. The clinic offers a comprehensive range of services, including: Primary medical care: General check-ups, preventative care, and management of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and GERD. Specialty Medical Care: Access to various specialty clinics including cardiology, nephrology, rheumatology, optometry, orthopedics, and psychiatry. dental care: Free dental services such as fillings, cleanings, tooth extractions, and treatment for gum disease. eye care: Free eye care services and access to free or low-cost eyeglasses. Virtual Care: Telehealth services for urgent medical and dental needs, including asynchronous care and leveraging AI for efficient diagnosis and care plans. Free and low-cost prescriptions: An in-house pharmacy providing brand-name and generic medications, often at no cost through patient assistance programs for chronic diseases. behavioral health Services: Free behavioral health counseling for currently enrolled medical patients. Connected Care: Programs designed to empower patients with healthy lifestyle practices, including remote patient monitoring. Spiritual Care: Confidential conversations and support for patients of various faiths, aiming for healing of body, mind, and spirit. While most services are free, Lackey Clinic suggests a contribution for appointments ($25 for medical, eye, and behavioral health; $50 for dental), though contributions are not mandatory to receive care. They do not offer chronic pain management, pre-natal care, substance abuse treatment, or treatment for severe mental illness. Lackey Clinic is financially supported through donations, grants (such as from Sentara Healthcare and Optima Health for their Virtual Care program), and various giving options including online donations, Venmo, PayPal, checks, planned giving, and corporate matching. They are a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization and have received high ratings for their accountability and financial practices from organizations like Charity Navigator. The clinic relies heavily on volunteers, offering numerous opportunities across medical, dental, pharmaceutical, behavioral health, administrative, and support roles, demonstrating their community-centric approach.

You’re disposable at the clinic. If you need anything specialist wise, they pick and choose who to help and when. I was referred out for PT that costs $600. One week later I receive a letter stating they can’t help me…oh, why? Because someone needs treatment and you don’t want to help or pay for it? I mean, isn’t this your job? You get funds and refer out because your clinic is absolutely useless in every aspect. They gave me zero reasoning for my discharge, which I found extremely strange. Just said “we can’t help you. ” And left it at that vaguely. No reason on why help couldn’t be offered. It takes you months just to see a specialist in office and they clearly don’t want to pay to send you elsewhere for faster treatment and answers.

Hence why I think they discharged me for the reason of they didn’t want to help pay for my physical therapy appointments that this office doesn’t offer. They literally refer out for EVERYTHING. As nothing is really actually done in office here. Margaret the receptionist is the worst. Zero customer service skills. Zero phone etiquette. She laughs at your anxiety and is passive aggressive toward you. She will tell you she will send messages but doesn’t. These people are volunteers, so don’t expect to receive good healthcare services, as They clearly hate their jobs.

Maybe find a real job that pays you. Maybe you’ll have a passion for helping those who are in need. Responding to Lackey: Really? Because I spoke with the CEO today and he couldn’t give me a definite answer on the why…that definitely doesn’t at all makes sense. He couldn’t tell me the EXACT reason on why you could no longer provide my care…. you guys are nothing but unprofessional and you discriminate toward people you are supposed to help. Which leads me to believe, you didn’t want to help me with my services that I truly needed. Wouldn’t you call someone and explain the situation of why? Rather than to say “continue your care elsewhere” , because that’s so vague! I’m disgusted and disappointed by your lack of professionalism. I deserve to know WHY you can no longer provide services other than, “we can’t provide services for you. ”

This place is a blessing!!! My insurance was cancelled and I really need dental work done. I came across this on google and applied. Within two days I had a call back and an appointment the next day for an exam! Now I have been PRAYING to find someone to help me!!! I had no clue this was a faith based organization until I did some research and boy did I cry like a baby because that showed me that my prayers really were answered!!! Oh and side note-they were playing KLOVE and Brandon Lake was on, he’s my favorite 🙌🏼 definitely all the signs I needed! Thank you guys for what you do!!! It is truly appreciated!!! Let me just add to this now that I’ve been seen for multiple things.

The dental, medical, and vision teams are all amazing. I’ve never felt like someone cared so much about my health. They are definitely getting me right from head to toe! Again, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you all!🙏🏼

A very special place for me, since 2007 I have been attending this clinic and all its staff, very attentive and pleasant, I thank the dental staff, the receptionists, pharmacy staff, the nurses, my doctor Margaret, Sigelda was the first person to meet, there was only one podiatrist missing and finally there is already, thank God for attending this very special clinic for me.

I use this clinic for dental care. It can take quite a long time to get an appointment, I am guessing that is because I wasn't in immediate pain. HOWEVER, I have been very pleased with the care I have received. I can't afford dental care and my teeth reflect that. I have several broken teeth that need to be extracted. I was able to get a cleaning and x-rays and an appointment for the 1st of several extractions of broken back teeth. Today I had my first extraction. It is the very first time I didn't have a painful experience during a dental procedure! I was so very happy.

The doctor and her assistant were gentle and very efficient. The dentist numbed me up and before I knew it, the tooth was removed. All of my anxiety was for nothing. I am so very grateful. My interactions with the pharmacy staff and receptionist were positive as well. I am so happy there is a place like this available during these trying times.
