Detailed Introduction

Lake Superior Community Health Center (LSCHC) is a prominent non-profit organization established in 1972, operating as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). With a mission to "improve access to quality health care for all," LSCHC serves the communities of Duluth, Minnesota, and Superior, Wisconsin, as well as Carlton. Their core philosophy is that healthcare is a fundamental right for everyone, and they are dedicated to breaking down financial, cultural, and other barriers to good health. LSCHC offers a wide array of integrated healthcare services under one roof, ensuring a holistic approach to patient well-being. These services include: Medical Care: Diagnosis and treatment for acute and chronic illnesses, physician care, vaccinations, lab services, nursing care, medications, and referrals. Dental Care: Full-service dental care, including cleanings, X-rays, fillings, basic oral surgery, preventative, and restorative procedures. Behavioral Health: Compassionate counseling for individuals, couples, and families, addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, stress management, grief, loss, and trauma-informed care. They emphasize an "integrated behavioral health" model, allowing seamless coordination between medical and mental health providers. Chiropractic Care: Comprehensive, high-quality chiropractic services. Insurance Navigation: A dedicated Health Care Access Office (HCAO) assists patients with financial eligibility screening, application assistance for public and private insurance programs (like Minnesota Care and Wisconsin Badger Care), and understanding their health insurance plans. They also provide referrals to other local community resources and public programs like SNAP. As an FQHC, LSCHC provides services on a sliding fee scale based on family size and household income, ensuring affordability for uninsured, underinsured, and publicly insured community members. They are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, with a majority of members being patients themselves, ensuring that the services truly meet community needs. LSCHC actively engages with the community, participating in local events and encouraging community members and patients to join their board to contribute to healthcare access and equity. They also demonstrate community involvement through initiatives like their Patient Pantry, offering healthy food and essential household goods. LSCHC's commitment to integrated care, where medical and behavioral health providers collaborate closely, allows for a comprehensive and personalized approach to patient health. They are a vital "safety net" for the underserved, while also innovating in healthcare delivery to treat the "whole person."

Requested help for needed dental services, and instead of trying to help the dental receptionist got rather nasty. This woman has zero business in a customer service roll, she doesn't know how to treat people.

I was able to get my treatment medication here cheaper price then I would from the street so so far so good. They obviously don't like benzodiazepines in your system is my bad and they are currently helping me come off of those. I thought the treatment here would be much more of a hassle but it's really not and if you need Suboxone I suggest going to lake Superior community health clinic. They can get you in pretty fast and if you are on opiates they will help you right away.

I was currently on Suboxone when I was already buying but not through a doctor. It feels good to have a doctor and be under their care while I am on a controlled substance. Thank you too Dr Adam and the friendly staff.

I would say I am extremely dissatisfied. I made an appt because I had my tooth down to nerve. I went in so did my child. This appt took months to get. To be told we will make another appt to have the _# of teeth pulled. “We will let you know when schedule opens up”. Ans child had cavities needed fixing.

I go in same day as child- next appt- again months later they only did partial work on her and me ( only pulled 2 out of many needed pulling and was told that’s what this appt was for ! ) told they will call when schedule opens up……. Again! A multiple of teeth were supposed to be pulled. And weren’t, now I have to wait, it’s been 5 months! Still no call. And to top it all off , 8 days after my teeth were pulled I was in so much pain and swelling, I called them first thing that morning…. To be told take more Tylenol and ibuprofen…. Well one if you would have looked I’m allergic to Tylenol and have already taken enough ibuprofen to eat my stomach alive. So I ended up having to find an emergency dentist and fork out a ton of money! To treat dry socket, and the nerve that popped out of my gums From the tooth next to it, that one was also supposed to be pulled , but instead the nerve ends up popping out of my gums and not pulled! LSCHC should have listened to the patient.

So now even though I have state dental I had to take out loans to pay for my dental care out of pocket! So now, guess we will pay out of pocket for actual dental care. Really quite sad. Can’t say this was a one time experience, as you can tell I’ve been dealing with them for months. Nothing changes.

From my experience, I do not trust my health needs will be met here. I moved to a different provider and have received better quality care, including polite and professional communication. Actually, one can see from their generic, self-promoting replies to several reviewers here that this provider doesn't hear patient needs well, respond with understanding and compassion, or convey interest in improving the quality of their care.

All red flags that match my in-person experience.
