Detailed Introduction

Medgaus Dental Group was a prominent dental practice with locations in Pittsburgh and Monroeville, Pennsylvania, known for providing comprehensive and advanced dental care for over five decades. The group was founded by Dr. Carl Medgaus, a highly experienced and respected dentist who began his practice in 1973. Dr. Medgaus was a true innovator in the field of dentistry, dedicating over 51 years to advancing dental care. A cornerstone of Medgaus Dental Group's offerings was their extensive expertise in dental implants. Dr. Carl Medgaus himself had placed over 5,000 implants and completed more than 600 full-arch cases, boasting an impressive implant success rate of over 99%. He received training from world-renowned organizations like the Misch Implant Institute and the Pikos Institute, ensuring that the practice was at the forefront of implant dentistry. One of Dr. Medgaus's most significant contributions was the development of the revolutionary Stabili-Teeth™ procedure. This groundbreaking technique was designed to provide an affordable, lasting, and convenient full-arch tooth replacement solution, particularly for patients with failing teeth, multiple tooth loss, or those struggling with ill-fitting dentures. Stabili-Teeth™ utilized a unique combination of narrow diameter implants (NDIs) and conventional-sized dental implants to provide immediate, stable, and long-lasting results at a fraction of the cost of traditional full-arch implant solutions. This innovation aimed to make permanent tooth replacement accessible to a broader range of patients, significantly improving their function, health, and quality of life. Beyond implants, Medgaus Dental Group offered a wide array of general and cosmetic dental services, including composite fillings, dentures, frenectomies, gingivectomies, gum grafting, inlays and onlays, occlusal adjustments, oral pathology exams, root canals, preventive dentistry, and teeth grinding treatments. The practice emphasized comprehensive care, aiming to address various oral health needs all in-house, providing convenience and continuity of care for their patients. Their approach was rooted in a philosophy that "rehabilitating a patient's smile is really rehabilitating their entire life," highlighting their commitment to improving not just oral health but overall well-being and confidence. The practice prided itself on combining skilled dentists, including Dr. Medgaus and his associate Dr. Maelys Aguila (a native Spanish speaker), with advanced technology to ensure successful procedures and optimal oral health outcomes. They also recognized the importance of patient comfort, offering solutions for dental anxiety, such as IV sedation. Tragically, the Medgaus Dental Group ceased operations unexpectedly in early 2025 following the sudden passing of its founder, Dr. Carl Medgaus, at the age of 76 on January 15, 2025. This unforeseen event led to the closure of both their Pittsburgh and Monroeville locations, leaving many patients, especially those undergoing ongoing treatments or having paid for services not yet completed, in a difficult situation and seeking alternative dental care. Dr. Medgaus's legacy, however, remains in his profound impact on his patients' lives and his significant contributions to the field of implant dentistry, particularly through his Stabili-Teeth™ innovation.

Avoid this group, their lack scheduling system will run you between Monroeville and Mt Lebo and they don’t communicate between the two locations. Most of their advance equipment is Monroeville, their Mt Lebo office is the step child.

I had implants done. He seemed caring and professional. When I told him my back teeth did not touch he ground down my fronts. I told him they still did not touch - his comment was they look nice. Sent an email pic showing exposed post months ago and no response. Way more about appearance than functionality!!

Over the course of my adult life I have spent an exorbitant amount of time and money doing everything I could to fix my teeth. Fillings, root canals, crowns & a bridge — you name it…I probably had it. I had so many crowns I should be considered royalty. 😉👑 On my lower right I was advised to go to a specialist to save a tooth that was in very rough shape & then to file down a perfectly healthy tooth to create a bridge. Just the specialist and this one root canal was roughly 3k. All in, the bridge was over $8,000. Fast forward, I’m in pain & the office that I had gone to for quite some time was very booked & it was early-ish Covid…. they couldn’t make it work. So, I wound up getting help from a different provider. It was there where I had four more extractions done. Two on my top left had to go & two on my bottom right. Three guesses which two teeth 😂🤣☠️ — it was the bridge that was barely a year old. The 3k tooth cracked and I couldn’t afford to have them carefully remove the bridge and the cost of a new crown. I had upper and lower temporary partials and extraction sites on both sides of my face. And, nothing natural left, in regard to back teeth, to be able to truly chew with. I stopped going after the temporary partials.

The bottoms I could tolerate, but the tops made me feel ill. I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t speak. All I did was gag. I hated them with a fervent passion. Once I was healed I stopped wearing them. And, I did not want to spend a few more thousand dollars on the permanent partials in fear that I wouldn’t be able to tolerate them either. So, I made myself a promise. The next thing that went wrong…. I was going to get implants. Somehow, someway I would make it happen. I never dreamed that the catalyst was going to be taking a bite of frozen pizza and having my front tooth snap off. I wish it had been anything aside from a front tooth, but it’s ok now. ☺️ I’ve said *all* of that to say this. The entire staff has been absolutely nothing short of amazing. They made it a priority to find time and get me in the day after one of my many crowns snapped off taking a bite of pizza.

I had never even been to their office before. They have been gracious, gentle, warm and kind. Especially Branna & Mel. They took the extra time and made certain that I felt truly comfortable. Dr. Medgaus even stayed late on my second smile design appointment. I would trust and recommend this office for any dental need you may have. Thanks to them I will no longer have to worry about a toothache or needing a filling, root canal or a crown. I just need to be smart and live my happy little life. I am *especially* grateful to Dr. Medgaus & Dr. Rastegar & I am doing everything in my power not to mess up their work. I hope that as long as I take care of my implants they will be healthy and functional for many years to come. I can’t tell you what it means to me to be able to see my reflection again and have it look like…me. Yesterday was my first day back at work & this is what I look like 1 week post op:
