Detailed Introduction

The Miami County Dental Clinic (MCDC) is a distinguished 501(c)3 non-profit organization located at 70 Troy Town Dr, Troy, OH 45373. Established in 2008, its core mission is to deliver high-quality dental care and promote oral health education within a safe, compassionate, and accessible environment. The clinic serves a diverse patient base, including individuals who are uninsured, under-insured, low-income, and those with state-assisted insurances, in addition to accepting several commercial insurance plans. For residents of Miami and Shelby counties, the MCDC offers a crucial sliding fee scale, which adjusts the cost of services based on family size and income, making dental care more affordable and accessible. The Miami County Dental Clinic offers a comprehensive range of dental services. These include preventive care such as teeth cleanings, oral hygiene education, nutritional counseling, fluoride treatments, and sealants. For restorative needs, they provide fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures (complete and partial), and address more complex issues like extractions and root canal therapy. They also offer emergency dental services, understanding the urgent nature of dental trauma. A key aspect of their approach is patient education, emphasizing proper home care and early detection of conditions like gum disease, tooth decay, and oral cancer to ensure long-term oral health. Beyond their in-clinic services, the Miami County Dental Clinic is actively involved in community outreach. Their "Traveling Smiles Portable Dentistry Program" extends dental treatment and oral health care to children in area schools who might not otherwise have access to a regular family dentist. This program provides dental exams, x-rays, cleanings, fluoride, sealants, and treatments for common issues like toothaches and cavities. The MCDC is partially funded by foundations, corporations, and individual donors, underscoring its community-supported model. Their commitment to the community is also reflected in their flexible hours, which can include early morning, evening, or weekend appointments to accommodate busy schedules.

Would not recommend going here the staff does not listen to patients who have experience with there own bodies or had experience in dental procedures before as a kid I had tons of dental work done from an orthodontist who educated me very well in the density field, but I just never wanted to be a dentist! When a patient says hey I do not need a tooth pulled I need a root canal this man had pulled my chewing tooth which could have been saved with a root canal, but he played guessing games with the x-rays saying it needed pulled instead . After he didn’t stitch me up or give me antibiotics which made my infection worse back in 2024. I had an abscess in front of another tooth that was actually the one that needed a root canal, but again had pulled my chewing tooth for no reason. The infection from the other tooth that had the abscess on my gum was spreading inside my gum thats the reason for the dark shadows in the x-ray! I had to call my family doctor to get antibiotics. A few weeks later go to the Er and get mouth wash. Then call my family doctor again to get more antibiotics ! Dr. Kira and her assistant are a good team, but I feel she is still inexperienced. I had told her that my Gum was infected and needed a root canal on the tooth with abscess or drained she did a test with a flexible needle. She didn’t do this right. She could not trace the infection saying she was not sure if it was infected or not from what showed on the x-ray! Then I go in again for her to check me out at first she said she was going to do some tests after her assistant took more x-rays ! She was guessing I needed two more teeth pulled ! I said no what I need is this opened up or drained or a root canal ! She said I needed an orthodontist and refused treating my problem! Sent me referrals to places that ended up getting denied because she does not know where to send caresource patients except ohio state or a place that takes 20yr olds with caresource ! I had to get those numbers to call and figure out what was going on.

I could have died from this! Which could have went into my blood stream and killed me ! I told her the infection was spreading through my Gums ! So for a period from April -August of 24 -February of 25 I was not listened to! The infection was spreading, antibiotics were not working. Dr. Kira put in a referral in August to Ohio state so did my family dr. , but no one had called me back. I called up there with the phone number dr. Kira gave me. they said they have a lot of patients that come through they select so many for every 3 months. I had no idea my referral was denied until they told me. Well then I explained what was going on ohio state said the miami county dental clinic should have listened to me . They should have taken care of it instead of refusing to treat me.

Dr. Kira said I needed an orthodontist which is why I had a referral for ohio state ! Then she sent a referral for another dental clinic that only to patients up to 20 yrs of age. I felt so sick from April 2024- Feb 2025. So I talked to caresource a nurse who found me a few dental clinics/ orthodontists . I was transferred to member services, transferred to dental quest over the phone ! They found a place I could go without any hassle of waiting ! I threatened to sue the miami county dental clinic until they found me a solution. Receptionist told me to call caresource. I said I already did! Receptionist had the Audacity to ask me about what I had found out so they could help other patient’s ? means the receptionists do not do there jobs. I seen them playing on their phones instead of doing research for their patients! I recently went to another dental place that took care of my issue! Saying if I would have waited any longer this infection probably could have killed me ! Saying the infection was 90 percent bad. The miami county dental clinic should have not refused to take care of the infection in the first place! specifically Dr. Kira cannot listen to educated patients! She had sent me with scripts of useless antibiotics/mouthwash! Scheduled me no need!
