Detailed Introduction

Mountainlands Community Health Center (MCHC) is a deeply rooted non-profit healthcare organization established in 1994, with its main administrative and clinic site located at 589 S State St, Provo, UT 84606. MCHC's core mission is to bridge the healthcare gap for medically underserved populations, specifically low-income, uninsured, and underinsured individuals in Utah and Uintah Counties. They achieve this by offering high-quality, comprehensive health services on a sliding fee scale, ensuring that cost is not a barrier to essential care. MCHC provides a wide array of services including family practice medical care, dental services, mental health care, and affordable pharmacy services. Their mental health offerings encompass individual, group, and family counseling, crisis management, diagnostic evaluation, and medication consultation, with on-site services available at their Provo, Payson, and Vernal locations. MCHC is committed to integrated care, coordinating primary care with behavioral health services. The organization's impact on the community is significant. In 2016, MCHC served over 15,000 patients through more than 44,000 patient encounters, with a substantial majority (over 68%) earning less than 150% of the Federal Poverty Level and a high percentage (69%) being uninsured. MCHC's patient population includes vulnerable groups such as migrant and seasonal farm workers, individuals experiencing homelessness, and HIV positive individuals. They operate multiple clinic locations, including one co-located within Wasatch Mental Health in Provo and another with the Food and Care Coalition in East Bay Provo, which is the first and only health center in Utah County to provide primary care services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. MCHC is accredited by The Joint Commission as a Patient-Centered Medical Home, emphasizing a patient-centered approach that prioritizes individual needs, coordinated care across the healthcare system, accessible services with reduced waiting times, and a strong commitment to quality improvement through evidence-based medicine. They actively collaborate with contributors, organizations, and community partners to meet client needs and manage resources responsibly.

This clinic used to be great now it’s the worst. It’s overpriced, I called to make an appointment and they told me it was going to be $50 for the consultation. When I got there they charged me $90 and later sent me a bill for a pending balance of $58.

For a stupid consultation where they only checked my lungs and gave me antibiotics, they disregarded my other symptoms. At this point I would rather look for a different clinic with more knowledgeable doctors.

Terrible service ! We were wrongly referred to a medical clinic that did not take vouchers ( they gave us the medical doctor phone number to call), so now we have a bill of $380. + a different referral for lab test, which we were not explained we had to do it @ the clinic and not elsewhere, so now we have an extra bill of $245.

I called the clinic for information and an explanation and someone very coldly said "yeah that was a mistake, there is nothing else we can do, no help, sorry" and she rudely hang up the phone before I had time so say or ask something else. If you don't like your job or do not know how to do it, just leave ! This is medical services, not a notary or the IRS, where there is a complete dehumanizing and disregard of the other ! I will NOT come back to this place!!

I had the best experience during a difficult moment at this clinic. I was miscarrying after going to the er where they told me everything looked perfect and didn’t mention the possibility of miscarriage going forward. I came in at 11am with extreme pain and they treated me in the kindest way while expressing their concern, everyone was extremely helpful. They rushed to get me an appointment with a doctor coming from the hospital. I know this time of year is very busy for them yet they managed to make me a priority.

I’m grateful for the doctor being willing to come to see me. He was very respectful and let me know his concerns from the beginning and we confirmed miscarriage through an ultrasound. I am so grateful for everyone and their help.

It is the best community clinic we have ever been to. From staff to nurse to doctor everyone is extremely friendly. Dr Rowe and Mrs. Nelcy went above and beyond to ensure my parents are taken care of. Thank you for all you do!
