I would not recommend Mt. Pleasant Family Dental. Last July, I had sealants placed on my molars. Now, less than a year later, my new dentist needs to remove the sealants since they were done incorrectly. The sealants have air bubbles and gaps, leading to at least one cavity (I've never had a cavity before).

A really friendly and welcoming staff. The dentist clearly explained procedures thoroughly and explained all ongoing treatment.The dentist did a great job in managing pain. I always feel confident in the dentist skill and knowledge.

Beware of $35 PPE surcharge! Went here for two years with good service. Solid dentist office besides them always pushing extra cost services on you like fluoride. Went for my 6 month check up April 2025 and was asked to sign a new office policy where they are now charging a blanket $35 surcharge to cover cost of PPE gear - despite a 6-month check up being fully covered by insurance! When I asked questions on this the front desk was not helpful and basically said you don’t have to sign it, but then I couldn’t get the exam despite taking off work and already being there.

Pretty dishonest to not state ahead of time and just crazy to say that 2 gloves and a mask should cost the patient $35. Walked out. Called my insurance who was surprised to hear about this.

They said they paid a PPE surcharge ($20 at this office) during the pandemic but don’t see the same reason to do so now. Feels like something the dentist office needs to work out with insurance, not try to blind side patients who already pay insurance.

I went here based on some recommendations from Reddit and other online sites. I've had nothing but poor experiences since. My first visit, they told me repeatedly that my teeth were in horrible shape. I've never had so much as a cavity in my entire life, and it kind of freaked me out. They upsold me on several treatments and turned in a free routine visit into a $100+ affair. They were also incredibly rough on my teeth in a way I had never experienced. My gums were sore for several days.

My second visit, the same thing occurred, but I denied some of the upcharge services. My third visit, they asked me to sign a paper saying I would pay $35 for equipment and materials - something they wouldn't send to the insurance company. I know it's only $35, but I'm not looking to turn free routine visits into legitimate expenses. And also it sounds so sketchy. I will unfortunately not be returning. Update: Dr. Thompson reached out to me about my experience.

He expressed regret that the situation occurred as it did (although not an apology). He offered to reschedule me with priority and waive the fee. He mentioned this review, but didn't ask that it was updated. I appreciated the note, and have adjusted this to 2-stars. I still will not be returning because I do not trust that the decisions this practice are making are prioritizing patient health more than financial gain, however the staff appears to be thoughtful and perhaps my experience isn't as common.
