In May 2020 I went to Munster Dental Center for a routine cleaning/exam (but no xrays). This was my first time there since I needed to find a new dentist. The dentist was nice and welcoming and the hygienist as well. After I was done, I was told the fluoride treatment wasn’t going to be covered under my insurance and would cost $17. No biggie paid the $17 in cash and had my receipt, which was very vague on what I paid for. Fast forward to this month, I receive a bill for $17 with no description or codes or anything on it explaining why I owe $17.

I call MDC and Venita, the receptionist, said that the bill was for my exam since the insurance company didn’t cover all of it (Weird in my opinion but who knows) and coincidentally was the same amount for my fluoride treatment. Sounding inconvenienced over the phone she told me I needed to call my insurance company to discuss this. My insurance had told me my insurance would cover the xrays, exam, AND fluoride treatment. The insurance company also stated they though something was fishy with the dentist office as well. Whether this place is trying to argue that my insurance didn’t cover all of my exam costs or my flouride treatment, they’re wrong in both ways as I supposedly already paid my flouride treatment and my insurance should’ve covered my exam costs plus the flouride treatment. After being on the phone with my insurance they were still sending the money to the dentist to cover any costs from the balance, which is so terrible in myr opinion.

I should be refunded the $17 I paid but I don’t see that happening, which is fine because I’m lucky enough to live without that, but I can’t help but to think of the many others who were charged extra money and paid it without reviewing what it was for. I chose this place because they’re were so many good reviews and I wanted something closer due to the pandemic, but unfortunately reviews mean nothing as I’ve learned. If you currently go to this dentist and haven’t experience anything like this then that’s great & I hope they continue to do so. This is just a friendly reminder to always review what you’re being charged for 😊

Careful, if you point out the sharp edges and ridge snags after a filling more than twice you'll just lose your cusps entirely. If only the work were as lovely as the staff.

The staff and dentist office were nice and pleasant. The Dr. took care of a problem with one of my molars and it was quick and painless. My insurance paid some of it and my remaining balance I had to pay was very reasonable.
