Detailed Introduction

Northwestern Medicine Dental Center (NMDC) stands as a leading oral healthcare institution located in the heart of Chicago. As an integral part of the esteemed Northwestern Medicine system, NMDC benefits from a deep-rooted affiliation with Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. This connection allows the dental center to integrate the latest advancements in research and education into its clinical practice, ensuring a high standard of patient care. NMDC is dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate dental services. Their team comprises award-winning doctors, many of whom are also involved in teaching and publishing, bringing a wealth of expertise and a commitment to continuous improvement in dental science. The clinic offers a wide array of services designed to meet diverse oral health needs, including but not limited to: General Dentistry: Routine check-ups, cleanings, and preventative care. Cosmetic Dentistry: Procedures such as bleaching, bonding, porcelain veneers, and crowns to enhance smiles. Restorative Dentistry: Crowns, bridges, and fillings to repair and replace damaged or missing teeth. Periodontal Care: Corrective treatments for gum and supporting tissue problems, including advanced periodontal surgical procedures. Implants: Placement of titanium foundations for single or multiple missing teeth, followed by the attachment of natural-looking prosthetics. Prosthodontics: Comprehensive restoration of tooth and jaw function through integrated use of crowns, bridges, implants, and removable dentures. Endodontics: Root canal therapy for inflamed or infected tooth pulp. Advanced Oral-Care Services: Including full reconstruction of dental arches, major occlusal (bite) reconstructions, and TMJ diagnosis and treatment. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons within the Northwestern Medicine system also handle wisdom tooth removal, tooth extractions, bone grafting, oral pathology, corrective jaw surgery, and facial trauma. The center emphasizes a patient-first approach, striving to deliver excellent care with a focus on individual attention and comfort. They prioritize a welcoming environment and work to address any patient or family concerns through their dedicated Patient Relations team. Their commitment to integrating education and research aims to continually improve clinical practice, serving a broad community and bringing cutting-edge dental solutions closer to patients. Historically, Northwestern's dental lineage dates back to the late 19th century with the acquisition of the American College of Dental Surgery. Notable figures like Dr. Greene Vardiman Black, often recognized as the "Father of American Dentistry," significantly shaped its curriculum and reputation, establishing it as a leading institution. The institution has a rich history of pioneering achievements, including the first post-doctoral degree in dentistry (1922), one of the first graduate programs in pediatric dentistry (1935), and early graduate orthodontic programs. This legacy of innovation and excellence continues to inform the practice at Northwestern Medicine Dental Center.

The doctors are OK, but the scheduling and billing office works together to run a shady SCAMMING practice of NOT doing reminder calls (or texts), and then when confronted LYING to claim that they called and left voicemails regarding appointment reminders. They charge a massive $75 fee for missed appointments, which is not written in any disclosed forms or documents.

Instead of accommodating for patients' circumstances, they go straight to pocketing the fees. RUN from these liars and avoid this place at all costs!!!

Unfortunately I was treated in the same rude and inconsiderate manner as a previous reviewer (see Youssef Matmati) was. This dental practice may have a friendly facade to prospective patients, but is rigid, uncompromising, and sometimes downright rude to existing patients. Unanswered calls and unreturned plead are just some of my experiences. Also, do not count on their appointment reminder system, and expect monetary penalties to pile up quickly if you infringe on their internal policies.

Please beware. . .

Long story short. My wife is the patient. After spending more than $50,000 on necessary dental work (not cosmetic--necessary) over the course of about 7 years, and *never* missing a payment or an appointment, she had to cancel some appointments earlier this year because she had some Covid-like symptoms. Like every place, they had a big notice to not come in under that circumstance. (We are elderly. ) Got charged more than $400 dollars for missed appointments, and it was sent immediately to a collection agency.

No one there would listen to our explanations. Like others have said, the dentists are fine -- the office staff is HORRIBLE, and the dentists seem to be afraid of the staff. BTW -- This office is NOT part of the Northwestern Medicine system, even though they use that as their name. They just rent space in a Northwestern building.

This is a gem, not 'salon' or 'boutique' or 'bar' but old-fashioned dental office with emphasis on quality work, the doctors' credentials/ accolades and their patients' well-being. Dr. Mark Hutten is an outstanding dentist who took on my relative's highly complex case, and achieved great results. He has decades of experience and a warm empathetic approach. His assistant, Mary, is caring and thorough. Dr.

Samir Patel has both excellent bedside manner and great technique. In his hands, you feel safe and recovery is quick. At the reception, Valerie welcomes you with a smile, returns calls quickly to get you in asap, and goes the extra mile to coordinate financing. Overall, a great experience over the past few years.
