Just went to Ocean Family Dental for the first time yesterday, and absolutely had to leave a review (which I never do). I've had minor to severe pain in one side of my face for about a year now. When it first started to get bad I went to a dentist who literally never even addressed my pain, but instead had me schedule root canals for two teeth that weren't even bothering me. After a few visits with him I decided to find a different dentist. But then life happened and I couldn't afford to continue seeking help. A few days ago the pain became so unbearable, I couldn't even sleep. It was a Saturday morning when I looked up dentists in my area. Quite a few said they were open, but when I called they said they were closed. I was about to give up when I finally got someone to answer my call.

I was told that they were seeing new patients, but were booked up for a few weeks. When I explained I really needed to see someone that day due to the severity of the pain and how long it had persisted, they said they'd see me if I came over right away. I was there within 20 minutes, and had only sat down in the waiting room for a few moments when I was brought back. The assistant was originally only going to take x-rays of the area that was causing pain, but left it up to me if we took a full set. I decided to go ahead and do them all. She was very patient and understanding of just how uncomfortable dental x-rays are, and got me through them in a few short minutes. She sat with me while we waited for Dr. Gilbert, who showed up a few minutes later. I could have cried when he said "you need a lot if different work done, but for now let's focus on getting you out of pain".

I was so relieved to hear that. He referred me to an oral surgeon to extract the two teeth that we believe are the culprits, as I'm more comfortable being put under for an extraction. He wrote me script for antibiotics and painkillers in the meantime. The assistant constantly advised that I call them if I need help with anything, from getting in to see the Oral Surgeon, to fighting my Insurance Company if they gave me any trouble. It was overall one of the best experiences I've had at a dentist. It is so nice to feel like you actually have people who are on your side and will fight to help you get what you need.

I had a dental emergency on Friday, I am giving them two stars for the front desk receptionist and the dental assistant . They were wonderful getting me in that same day. Although that’s where it stopped . I was seen but the doctor did not look at me for more than 2 min and just gave me meds and a pain killer and told me to come back, I was in a lot pain and she knew that.

I left and hoped for the best as she said it was inflammed I understand that medical point of view. Although I called back on Friday night because the pain got even worse I called the emergency line and NOT ONE doctor called me back until MONDAY( actually the front desk called not even the doctor ) I work for a four doctor practice and I manage the practice for the past 13 years. I always make sure my doctors answer their on calls within 30 min of the phone call. The level of unprofessionalism in that aspect as a doctor of not answering an emergency line is ridiculous, you are a dentist, one of the most demanding doctors if pain is a factor .

I am disappointed in the doctors not responding, I do not reccomend calling them for any of your emergency situations as they do not call you back. Again want to stress the dental assistant and the front desk were phenomenal just wish the doctors followed through as well .

Regular dentist was closed after my cap fell out, ocean family was the only dentist in the area who cared enough to say come right in. I ended up getting the cap back on myself and didn't need to go in, but the staff was so incredibly kind and helpful that I felt they deserved a review. The people at the front desk were exceptional and I would recommend them just based on how kind they were.

I'm sure the rest of the practice runs similarly.
