I called Dr. Brown’s office to inquire if Dr. Brown was a UFT network participating member, and I was told that he was. I made three visits there for a root canal procedure. In the first visit, the hygienist took a complete set of X-Ray and did a cleaning. I was charged $45 for that visit. In the second visit, Dr. Brown started the root canal and charged me $250. He finished the root canal in the third visit and charged me $250. During the third visit, Dr. Brown and his assistant were very disorganized.

While doing the procedure, he did not have all the necessary drilling tools in place. I was so dissatisfied with the overall service that I received from Dr. Brown during my three visits to his office that I decided to stop going there. I decided to go to another dentist. It was then that I realized that Dr. Brown had overcharged me for the procedure. I then called his office and asked about the price for a root canal. I was told by Crystal that the price for a root canal varies depending on the tooth. She went on to say that If it’s the back molar, it would be $1600. I then asked her to explain to me why I was charged $500. 00 for a root canal when another participating UFT dentist charged me $150.

00 for my copay. She then told me that Dr. Brown is not a participating UFT member, but that he accepts the UFT plan. I reminded Crystal that she had told me before that Dr. Brown was a participating member of the UFT plan. In summary, Dr. Brown charged me $545, and got $370 from the UFT to do a botched root canal that has to be retreated. My co-payment should have been only $150, the UFT rate. Do your homework. I never would have known that I was overcharged if I did not go to another dentist. Before going to a dentist, call the insurance company and get the participating providers list and the co-payment information

I just received a cleaning from Linda the hygienist. It was a wonderful experience. Linda was gentle yet effective with giving me a great cleaning. I have a bottom permanent retainer and she made it feel brand new.
