Detailed Introduction

Pediatric Dental Specialists is a dedicated dental practice located at 2705 S Berkley Rd #2b, Kokomo, IN 46902, specializing in the oral health needs of children from infancy through adolescence. This clinic, which operates under the name Pediatric Dental Specialists of Indiana, P.C., offers a comprehensive range of services tailored to young patients, understanding that children have unique dental concerns and often require a specialized approach to care. Their services typically include routine dental check-ups, professional cleanings, digital X-rays, fluoride treatments to strengthen enamel, and dental sealants to prevent cavities, particularly on molars. They also address existing dental issues with tooth-colored fillings, nerve treatments (pulpotomies), and the placement of stainless steel or zirconium crowns. For early intervention in orthodontic concerns, they offer interceptive orthodontics to address issues like crowding or space loss. Recognizing that dental visits can be intimidating for children, Pediatric Dental Specialists prioritizes creating a comfortable and anxiety-free environment. They employ various techniques to help young patients relax, including the use of nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral sedation, and in some cases, general anesthesia for very anxious children or those requiring extensive treatment. Their team is trained to communicate with children in an understandable way, fostering trust and encouraging positive dental habits from a young age. The clinic is staffed by pediatric dentistry practitioners such as Dr. Robert Long, DDS, and Dr. Matthew Pate, DDS. Pediatric dentists undergo additional training beyond general dentistry, focusing specifically on the unique developmental, behavioral, and dental needs of children, including those with special healthcare needs. This specialized expertise allows them to provide age-appropriate, expert care that lays the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles.

We just took our son for his first dentist appointment and for an accidental chipped tooth from a fall yesterday and they were great! Everyone was super nice there and the environment was great, definitely recommend taking your kids there for great service!

My children were referred to Dr. Pate when my second son had a serious cavity. Everything went fine and we continued to see this doctor and his staff every 6 months for regular cleanings for all four of my children. Now my children have always brushed twice a day and were never allowed to go to bed before brushing their teeth if they have eaten anything. Occasionally we will floss them. Two years later my same son had two more cavities around the tooth that had been a problem before but less serious. We scheduled the appropriate appointment. When the Dr came in I was asked if I was flossing his teeth everyday.

When I responded that I had not been flossing his teeth everyday he went as far as to say he was mad at me. He commented on how many cavities he must fill a year. He let me know my Medicaid insurance was poor coverage of the procedure. He had raised his voice to say this and all of this took place in front of my young son who is 8 years old prior to what was supposed to be a cavity filling. Needless to say I was taken aback by what had just happened. After speaking up and explaining how we care for our children's teeth and how many children we had with so few problems he backed up by saying he wasn't judging me. This of course would have been unnecessary if he actually wasn't judging me. Not exactly the environment you want to find yourself in before a sensitive procedure.

I can no longer take my children to someone who is capable of acting so unprofessionally. It would be best not to accept Medicaid patients if you plan to treat them with so little respect because their child has a cavity. I choose staying home with my children to care for them myself rather than a higher income. Medicaid does not equal irresponsible. And one should not be labeled because of their insurance or talked to so severly because of a cavity.

Dr Pate became upset when my 2 year old starting screaming. He told me I need to take him elsewhere. Then he starting saying it was too loud for his work environment. He was very rude. Do not recommend!

Dr. Pate and Dr. Long are both excellent doctors. They are caring, sensitive to your needs , and take the time to do things correctly. I would definitely recommend their practice for children's tooth care.
