Detailed Introduction

Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics of Virginia (PDOVA) is a well-regarded dental clinic specializing in comprehensive pediatric dentistry and orthodontics. With over 55 years of experience, PDOVA provides care for children from infancy through adolescence and even into young adulthood for orthodontic needs. The practice operates from two convenient locations in Midlothian and Colonial Heights, Virginia, making it accessible to families in the greater Richmond area. PDOVA is staffed by a team of experienced and compassionate doctors, including pediatric dentists Dr. Meera Gokli and Dr. Steven Lubbe, and orthodontist Dr. April Bridges-Poquis. Their philosophy centers on a conservative approach to treatment, emphasizing early prevention and patient/parent education to minimize the risk of dental issues. They utilize innovative technology to ensure the safest and most effective care. The clinic offers a wide range of services, including routine dental exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, fillings, and comprehensive orthodontic treatments like braces and clear aligners. They are known for creating a warm and welcoming environment, employing child-friendly techniques such as the "tell-show-do" method to help even the youngest patients feel comfortable and understand their treatment. Patient testimonials frequently highlight the friendly and engaging staff, the positive atmosphere, and the gentle care provided, often transforming anxious children into those who look forward to dental visits. Beyond in-office care, PDOVA demonstrates a commitment to community involvement through programs like their "Tooth Fairy" presentation, which educates children in schools and daycares about proper dental care in a fun and interactive way. They also offer flexible scheduling and in-house payment plans to make quality dental care accessible to more families.

It was great working with dr. Bridges and her team again! My son finished his orthodontics work 2 months early! The staff explained all steps thoroughly and in a way I could understand!

Both of my older children had braces from Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics of Virginia. Throughout the entire process, Dr. Bridges and her team were helpful and kind! We recommend Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics of Virginia to everyone because we couldn't be happier with our kiddos' beautiful straight smiles!

Edit - I would not recommend this practice to anyone, now that I really think about it. When I took my son to his 2-year check up, they did not tell me how to help it be successful, there was no instruction from anybody on what to do or expect. he got scared when the hygenist tried to look in his mouth, so they had me assist in holding him down with other staff, which was horrible. He screamed and cried the entire time. I have never been asked to hold him down for anything by his other doctors. Not even for shots, The dentist barely acknowledged him or spoke to him all. At the time, my child had recently started trying to resist tooth brushing, so I asked for advice on how to approach this, and the dentist told me to restrain him, with two people, one of us from the front and one from the back. No other advice or tips.

It didn’t seem like a good experience to me, but at the time I chalked it up to ignorance on my part. I’m glad that we got fired as patients, we will find a friendlier pediatric dentist. Blessing in disguise. My 2. 5 year old son was terminated as a patient because we had to reschedule his 05/01 appointment. He was sick. They let us reschedule to 5/29 and were accomodating over the phone. Today, 5/17, I received a letter in the mail dated 05/01 saying they were terminating our patient dentist relationship effective 05/01 and all future appointments are cancelled.

We have had to reschedule a couple appointments in the past mainly due to illness, family emergencies, etc. My son had chronic ear infections, so yes we have had to reschedule appointments because of him having ear infections two weeks out of every single month for over a year. We also paid any fees they charged us for rescheduling with no complaints. We received no warning or communication from the practice before receiving this letter. I have actually never received a communication like this from ANYWHERE before in my life. I would not recommend this practice to anybody who has a child that may be sick frequently, or any new parents who might be at that stage in life where daycare or school illnesses are going through their family.

My children started using PDOVA orthodontics in 2019. Dr. Bridges and staff have been incredibly thoughtful and thorough. From explaining each phase and the process, to welcoming our children, we have been given the absolute best care.
