Detailed Introduction

Pediatric Dentistry of Pittsburgh is a dental practice dedicated to providing specialized oral healthcare for children from infancy through adolescence. Located at 1600 Pacific Ave, Natrona Heights, PA 15065, the practice is committed to making dental visits a positive and comfortable experience for young patients and their families. The practice is led by Dr. Ryan Shaw, a certified Pediatric Dental Specialist and a diplomat of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Shaw grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and completed his undergraduate degree at Duquesne University before earning his dental degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He returned to Pittsburgh for his two-year Pediatric Dental Residency at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Dr. Shaw took over the established practice of Dr. David Selvig in 2016 and is dedicated to staying current in the field by regularly attending continuing education courses. The team also includes Dr. Ashley, a native of Southwestern Pennsylvania, who completed her pediatric dentistry training at Geisinger Medical Center and served as chief resident, and Dr. Nandita Pearce, an orthodontist with a Master of Science in Oral Biology and Dentistry, who provides orthodontic care. Pediatric Dentistry of Pittsburgh offers a wide array of services designed to meet the unique dental needs of children: Preventive Dentistry: This is a cornerstone of their practice, focusing on establishing a "dental home" for children and promoting lifelong oral health. Services include regular six-month examinations, dental prophylaxis (cleanings), necessary X-rays, fluoride treatments, and oral hygiene instruction for both children and parents. Dental Sealants: These protective coatings are applied to the chewing surfaces of permanent molars to prevent cavities in the deep pits and fissures prone to decay. Restorative Treatments: The practice utilizes bonded composite resin (tooth-colored) fillings for cavities, trauma, staining, or to close unwanted spaces. They are a mercury-free practice, as they do not use amalgam (silver) fillings. Other restorative services may include pulp treatments, dental crowns, and extractions when necessary. Orthodontics: Pediatric Dentistry of Pittsburgh provides certain orthodontic treatments specifically for pediatric and adolescent patients. Sedation Dentistry: To help alleviate anxiety for young or nervous patients, the practice offers nitrous oxide (laughing gas). For those who require deeper sedation or cannot tolerate treatment with nitrous oxide alone, IV sedation services are also available. Zoom Whitening: For older adolescents, Zoom! whitening is offered as a safe and effective method to lighten tooth discoloration. The practice emphasizes a patient-first approach, striving to provide efficient and comprehensive treatment while ensuring children feel at ease. Their staff is trained and skilled in working with children, providing energetic and fun-loving service to each patient, and maintaining a high level of care through continuous education and adoption of the latest technology. Pediatric Dentistry of Pittsburgh aims to be a welcoming, relaxing, and enjoyable environment for families, fostering a positive perception of dental care from a young age.

My experience coming into the office with my 4 boys is always a memorable one! They look forward to coming and getting their teeth cleaned and the prizes, stickers, toothbrushes help motivate them to brush & want to come back in 6 months.

We absolutely love Dr. Shaw! He is so caring and truly does his best to make sure the kiddos are comfortable and get the best care! All of the ladies are also wonderful. No where else I would rather take my kids!

I really like this office & the staff for my two small children. Both my kids needed several cavities filled. We were able to get them all done in the office rather than sedation which is what I preferred. The dentists are very friendly and great at keeping my kids relaxed. Neither of them are scared of the dentist even after having fillings. Truly a win 🏆

T H E best office for children! My kids started out going to them as toddlers and now my granddaughter is going. The doctors and staff are amazing, caring and excellent with communication. I always get a “real person” when calling and if I do have to leave a message, I am promptly receiving a return call.
