Detailed Introduction

Peninsula Community Health Services (PCHS) is a highly established and comprehensive non-profit organization serving the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsula areas of Western Washington, particularly Kitsap and Mason Counties. Founded in 1987 as Kitsap Community Clinic, it achieved Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) status in 1993, signifying its commitment to providing care to underserved populations. PCHS operates as a multi-site clinic, offering an integrated and patient-centered approach to healthcare. Their services are extensive and include primary medical care, preventative and restorative dental services, a full range of behavioral health counseling (including mental health and substance use disorder treatment), and pharmacy services. They also provide referrals to specialty providers and engage in health education and promotion activities. A core tenet of PCHS is accessibility and affordability. They welcome patients with various insurance plans, including Washington Apple Health (Medicaid), Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Tricare, and are dedicated to serving uninsured or under-insured individuals. For those without insurance, PCHS offers a sliding fee discount program based on household income and family size, ensuring that no one is turned away due to inability to pay. PCHS has demonstrated a strong commitment to community well-being through its expanding services, including mobile treatment services for primary medical and behavioral health to reach vulnerable and isolated individuals. They also have school-based health centers to provide direct care to students, aiming to reduce barriers like transportation and time constraints. In recent years, PCHS has even ventured into housing initiatives, providing project-based housing for low-income families and workforce housing for their staff, further illustrating their holistic approach to community health. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, PCHS relies on a combination of federal funding (as an FQHC), patient fees, and community donations to support its mission. They are accredited as a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) by the Accreditation for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), emphasizing their collaborative and coordinated care model.

This is a wonderful place to go. This facility has been friendly, tolerant and accommodating beyond measure. The doctor here remains the only person on earth i trust putting a needle in my face. Thank you guys for making a trip to the dentist something pleasant and painless.

I really appreciate the services I received from Dr. Berninghaus at the almira clinic. She went above and beyond to comfort and help me through my situation. I have a lot of teeth problems and she has been extremely helpful in getting my mouth back in shape and keeping me out of pain.

Me and my son go here and actually it’s the first time I have been to a doctor that actually listened to me. I also felt relaxed because I was able to get a woman doctor and she is very straight forward which I appreciate. The listening thing that is the most important. I even had my blood drawn here for tests and normally they jab my arm a million ways and still can’t locate the vein so I leave all bruised.

Nope, just once, she listened to my experiences and concerns and my worries and said “Ok, I won’t do it until I know I have a vein. ” I was talking to her and before I knew anything happened she had the needle in and the blood was being drawn! So I love this place. That’s just how I feel about it. I am about to schedule another visit! I actually look forward to scheduling my appointments!

Consistently friendly team of professionals- they seem to time manage patient flow well- which I’m aware can get tricky. . & requires a great deal of team effort- and I don’t know about you, but I find value in a work place that can operate as one unit! Tiny little waiting room, but like I mentioned, doesn’t stay crowded for long.

. they don’t have much to distract waiting young ones, but one of the dentists (or hygienists) was kind enough to take notice, and thoughtful enough to step out from the clinical area, to give my daughter a book to read- she GAVE us this book, nodding her head it was virtually other kid saliva free- so my daughter was free to chew on it! Made an impression! Next appointment will be for me and baby!
