Piedmont Access to Health Services, Inc., commonly known as PATHS, is a prominent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established with the mission to provide exceptional healthcare to all citizens in South Central Virginia, without regard to their ability to pay. Their vision is to be a catalyst for change within their community, ensuring that a healthy life is attainable for everyone.
PATHS offers a comprehensive suite of healthcare services designed to address various needs. These include general medical care,
Dental Services,
Behavioral Health support, and a
Community Pharmacy. They also provide specialized services such as OB/GYN and pediatric medicine. The organization began in 2001 as "Project Access of the Dan River Region," a system coordinating volunteer healthcare for the uninsured. Over the years, PATHS has significantly expanded its reach and services. In 2003, they created Southside Virginia MEDAssist to address medication assistance needs. Following this, in 2004, they received grants that led to the establishment of the CHAAP Program (Community HIV/AID Assistance Program) and the assumption of management for federally qualified community health centers in Danville and Martinsville, which became the Health Centers of the Piedmont. In 2007, PATHS expanded further, opening a third service location in Chatham, VA, where Carrie L. Hoffman is associated. They continued to grow, opening a Community Dental Clinic in 2010 and a Community Pharmacy in 2011. Subsequent expansion grants allowed them to open additional community medical centers in Boydton (2012) and South Boston (2017).
PATHS operates multiple locations across South Central Virginia, including Danville, Chatham, Martinsville, Boydton, and South Boston, making healthcare accessible to a broad population. Their commitment to offering a "medical home" for everyone, including the uninsured and underinsured, underscores their dedication to community health and well-being.
