Founded in 2009 by retired banker André Hintermann, PRDC was established to address the critical lack of affordable dental care for low-income residents in the Piedmont region of Virginia. The clinic's core mission is to provide accessible, high-quality dental services to individuals and families who are uninsured or covered by Virginia Medicaid. PRDC operates as a "safety-net" clinic, meaning it serves as a crucial resource for those who might otherwise go without essential dental treatment. They offer an "Affordable Care Program" with significant discounts for patients whose households are at or below 250% of the federal poverty level. Eligibility for this program is determined through a screening process based on household income and family size. The clinic provides a two-tiered system, with eligible residents from specific counties (Albemarle, Buckingham, Culpeper, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Nelson, Madison, or Orange, and the city of Charlottesville) potentially receiving dental care at 50% off standard rates, plus laboratory fees. For urgent care, low-income, uninsured residents of Culpeper, Madison, or Orange County may be eligible for a $25 co-payment, which can be waived in cases of extreme financial hardship. Urgent care is focused on addressing immediate issues such as severe toothaches, dental abscesses, loose or knocked-out teeth, and broken or chipped teeth. Piedmont Regional Dental Clinic offers a range of general dental services, including consultations with x-rays, cleanings, fillings, and extractions. They also provide some specialty services. The clinic is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern. In recent years, PRDC has partnered with the Culpeper Wellness Foundation, which now manages the clinic.
