It deserves no stars. I’ve been back and forth with Porter Dental since January it is now June. I finally get in the back to get my wisdom teeth removed (the front desk and others were very nice and helpful) but the orthodontist was very rude and mean to me and when I was trying to understand why he was being so hostile he told me I can leave and find somebody else to do it.

I normally hold it together but I cried hard because the way he was talking to me triggered me. Needless to say the entire business as a whole needs to be shut down and start over with new everything. People who do the job cause they love it is far more kinder than those who do it for the money.

I will never go back to any of their locations cause it doesn’t matter which one I’ve been to them all it’s unprofessional, unkind, not courteous and definitely not people oriented. If you are looking for somewhere for yourself as an adult and children, I hope you find somewhere else that’s more appreciative of your business regardless on if you’re paying out of pocket or through insurance. You are just a dollar sign that can be tossed

My kids originally had an appointment scheduled for 4/18/25 at the Brooklyn Park location. When my wife arrived, she was told the kids couldn't be seen. The reason given was that it takes them two days to confirm your insurance. Since this was our kids first visit and the appointment was made on 4/17/25, I didn't understand how the appointment could be made for 4/18 if it took two days to confirm insurance. We later received a call stating there was an issue with the insurance for my daughter. An attempt to return the call was made and we weren't able to confirm the exact issue. Although I wasn't aware of the exact problem, I went to my insurance portal and confirmed at a glance there didn't seem to be an issue. On the day of the appointment 4/24/25, I called my insurance to make sure there were no issues. I was told my daughter was listed and it has been active/effective since January. I also checked to ensure Porter Dental was in my network and they were. I then told my wife before she left for the appointment and asked her to call me if there was an issue. My wife and kids arrives at the office. She is told that the insurance is showing as inactive and a dental card was needed. After being called, I let my wife know that my provider didn't have Dental cards. They do provide the information group/policy number etc.

. . The receptionist states she needs the card and to see the back of the card. I assume she would need the back of the card to get the number to contact my provider. Again, there is no card,so I asked my wife to give the receptionist a number to contact the provider. Before I could finish reading number off, my wife says she's still asking for the card. There may have been some confusion, but my wife was then asked for a medical insurance card. While my medical insurance does issue cards, i wasn't sure why that was being asked for in place of a dental insurance card. The two are separate. My wife then asked how much would it be for the visit and I immediately ask her not to do that. Next I asked my wife to allow me to speak to the receptionist. Again, i inform the receptionist that my provider does not provide cards. I asked what the issue was with me giving her my provider's number. In my mind, you are asking for the back of a card to get the providers number and confirm insurance. Her reply was i can't use the number because they ( my provider) would ask for information she didn’t have.

Keep in mind that even if my wife could not provide information like my social security number I clearly could. she goes on to say if you'd like to speak to her supervisor/manager i could and they may be able to assist. I say please let me speak to your manager. Only to be told her manager was not in the office at the moment and would not be until tomorrow. She then states you can contact your provider and give them our number( Porter Dental) or have them fax the information over. I hang up the phone, call my provider who again confirms there is no issue and told me they would fax the information which should arrive in 15 minutes. My wife arrives back home earlier than I would have expected and says my daughter wasn't seen. She was told the fax never came through. If your team can't make simple appointments and confirm insurance, why should I trust your team to perform a medical procedure. Your establishment isn't just your medical staff, but your front facing receptionist. I don't expect people to be all knowing or even have authority to make certain decisions. What i do expect is someone who can effectively communicate. This issue should have been settled before my wife and kids arrived and alternative solutions should have been provided without me digging for them. Now I have to setup a third appointment for the two failed attempts.

Very kind and inviting atmosphere. The staff does well with the children to make them feel comfortable. My daughter was crying the whole time during her cleaning and the dental assistant and dentist were so patient with her.
