Detailed Introduction

Primary Health Care Dental - BEC is a key location within Primary Health Care, Inc. (PHC), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare and supportive services to individuals and families in Central Iowa. Situated at 2353 SE 14th St, Des Moines, IA 50320, this clinic specifically focuses on dental services, operating as a vital part of PHC's broader commitment to community well-being. PHC, including its BEC dental clinic, functions as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). This designation highlights its role in serving underserved populations and providing a wide range of primary care services. The BEC clinic is deeply integrated into the PHC network, which also offers primary medical care, behavioral health services, family planning, pharmacy services, and various supportive programs across multiple locations in Iowa (Des Moines, Ames, Marshalltown). The mission of Primary Health Care, Inc., which extends to the BEC dental clinic, is to provide "medical, mental health, dental, and supportive services with exceptional compassion and respect," making them "accessible to those who need the most help, including the homeless, children, refugees, and those living with HIV." For dental care, this translates into a commitment to offering high-quality, affordable services for both children and adults. The dental services provided at Primary Health Care Dental - BEC typically include, but are not limited to: Preventive Care: Exams, X-rays, cleanings, fluoride treatments, and dental sealants. Emergency Care: Addressing urgent dental needs. Restorative Treatments: Fillings, extractions, and other procedures to restore dental health. Oral Health Education: Guidance on proper brushing and flossing techniques. Prenatal Dental Care: Specialized care for expectant mothers. A significant aspect of PHC's model, including the BEC dental clinic, is its commitment to accessibility. They see patients "regardless of ability to pay," accepting Medicaid, Hawk-I, Dental Wellness Plan, and all private insurance. For those who are uninsured or underinsured, discounted visits are available based on a sliding fee scale, determined by family size and income. This ensures that essential dental care is not a luxury but an attainable service for everyone in the community. The clinic operates with a team of dedicated dentists and dental hygienists, emphasizing a patient-centered approach. Beyond direct dental treatment, PHC also offers broader support services such as assistance with medication purchases, transportation to appointments, and connections to housing and employment resources, reinforcing their holistic approach to patient health.

I had insurance and went to them, they made us pay out of pocket before they would schedule my appointment to get my wisdom teeth pulled. Then after they pulled my wisdom teeth out they tried saying that I owed them more. They started sending me bill's, eventually they sent me a letter saying they were going to send it to collections, I also got a letter from my insurance saying they paid for the procedures. I went to the office and flipped out on them telling them I already paid and they said I didn't so I showed them my bank statements. I told them I was going to sue them because they charged me and my Insurance and now they are harassing me.

They said they had to call someone, they kept calling multiple people. They gave up. if I could give 0 stars I would. I would not recommend them to anyone.

I like this place, it is neat, cleaning staff is friendly and helpful. You may have a problem, or actually a tough time getting an appointment but once you are in you are good to go. Very affordable (sliding fee scale ). Only Dentist I go to for the last 10 years or more, can't really remember how long I have been going to this establishment. There is plenty of parking (usually).

Easy to find, once you know where it is. I will recommend this place to anyone, and I will be back. I had a Root Canal, and filling done today 11/29/2023.

These types of offices are the reason people have to suffer with health problems!!! I was told because I have no insurance they refuse to see me! Absolutely 100% the worst place on planet earth and when I tried asking for help finding a place I get told NOPE!! So something’s going on here!! Might just call my attorney and see what they say.

I never knew a dentist can turn someone away for not having insurance!! Thanks for nothing and if something happens to me I’ll be sure to tell them YOU all turned me away and didn’t help in the slightest!!! Disgusting poor excuse for a dentist! This place needs shut down!!!!!!!!

Don't even call this place. They make absolutely no sense. They say since I haven't been there for 3 years that I'm not a patient and now I'm considered a new patient and they're not accepting new patients. I asked when can I make an appointment. After what she said, I asked if I never ever can go to this place and she said no that's not what I'm saying. So I asked, you can't make an appointment for me even if your next available one isn't for 3 months or even 6 months or a year, how do you just not make an appointment, ever.

I mean, certainly sometime in that time you should have an opening but you're basically telling me that you will never, never, ever even 5 years down the road you won't have an appointment for me. Makes no sense, this is an example of our healthcare system in this country. If you go somewhere poor people go, they do not care about you or any pain you're in. Obviously they're not in it to "help" people.
