Update: not to be dramatic but I took off a star because after this second visit I noticed the Dr was not as gentle as the dental assistants which I can understand, BUT he barely spoke to me, I’m not even sure of his name, and his work felt rushed. I was trying to rub my eyes from the water that was spraying and he was trying to hand me the trays in a rush but thank you to Daniel for grabbing them for me. He must be the same Dr that saw me my first visit because on that day he barely introduced himself and I don’t think we’ve ever made eye contact, but the dental assistants did all the work so I was happy with them and they are what make my experience at this practice great.
I will I’ve noticed a lot of dentist don’t spend a lot of time with their patients, but if there is one that does I hope I get to work with them. My first time visiting RenovaSmiles in Occoquan and I’m very pleased. The staff especially the dental assistants and hygienist were friendly and made me feel comfortable.
I’ve changed dentist around so much, but I’ll be sticking with them.

Renova Smiles did a fantastic job with the In office Zoom Whitening treatment. Jeffrey was patient and thorough from the beginning with his explanations. He assisted all throughout the entire treatment making me feel comfortable and doing an amazing job. Love the results!

will be sending this to BBB Review of Renova Smiles (Occoquan) – A Deeply Disappointing and Unprofessional Experience Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ (1/5) I recently visited Renova Smiles in Occoquan for a routine cleaning and X-ray, which was advertised as a $99 special. Unfortunately, my experience was far from professional or welcoming. Here’s a breakdown of the issues I encountered: Misleading Advertising and Upselling Tactics Renova Smiles heavily advertises a $99 special that includes a cleaning and X-ray. However, upon arrival, I was told that the cleaning would not be performed and that the actual cost would be significantly higher unless I subscribed to their in-house insurance plan. This bait-and-switch tactic is manipulative and unethical. Patients should not be lured in with false promises only to be pressured into purchasing additional services. Failure to Deliver Promised Services Despite paying for the advertised cleaning and X-ray, the staff refused to perform the cleaning without providing a clear or reasonable explanation. This lack of transparency is unacceptable, especially after committing to the advertised service. Unprofessional Behavior and Discrimination The staff openly criticized me in a language they assumed I wouldn’t understand (Spanish).
This behavior is not only unprofessional but also deeply disrespectful. As a person of color, I felt targeted and uncomfortable throughout my visit. Discrimination has no place in healthcare, and this experience was a stark reminder of how far some practices still need to go in fostering inclusivity. Loss of Personal Property During the X-ray, I was asked to remove my chain, which I complied with. However, upon its return, I noticed a diamond was missing. This is highly concerning and raises questions about the integrity and accountability of the staff. Losing or damaging a patient’s personal belongings is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the practice’s professionalism. Racist Remarks and Hostile Environment The staff’s racist remarks and overall demeanor created a hostile environment. As someone who was already self-conscious about my teeth, this experience only added to my discomfort.
Healthcare providers should prioritize making patients feel safe and respected, but Renova Smiles failed miserably in that regard. The Only Positive: The Manager The sole bright spot in this ordeal was the manager, who was polite and attempted to address some of my concerns. However, one individual cannot compensate for the systemic issues within the practice. Conclusion: I cannot recommend Renova Smiles in Occoquan to anyone, particularly individuals of color or those who may feel insecure about their dental health. The misleading advertising, manipulative upselling tactics, lack of professionalism, discriminatory behavior, and failure to deliver promised services make this practice one to avoid. If you value respect, transparency, and quality care, I strongly suggest seeking services elsewhere. Final Thoughts: This experience was deeply disappointing and highlights the need for better training and accountability within Renova Smiles. Healthcare should be a safe space for everyone, regardless of race or background. Unfortunately, this dentistry falls far short of that standard
