This is not a car wash! Nice enough dental office that did decent work. All the people there were also nice until I had to ask about pricing. All in all, it’s a pretty ordinary dental office.

I had a confusing and frustrating experience at Rittenhouse Dentists that I feel could have been handled with more transparency and clearer communication. According to my insurance, I’m eligible for a $0 cleaning. However, I was charged a $55 copay because I was diagnosed with periodontal disease. Unfortunately, the front office wasn’t able to clearly explain the reason for the upcharge or how the service I would be receiving differed from a standard cleaning. When I asked the hygienist for clarification, she also seemed unsure.

It took gathering the hygienist, front desk staff, and the doctor together to finally understand that the cleaning for someone with periodontal disease is more comprehensive, and therefore not fully covered by insurance. That conversation should have happened before I was charged—not after I asked multiple questions. Ultimately, I did not receive a cleaning during my visit. The front office did return my copay, and instead, I was given a proposed treatment plan that included two periodontal scaling visits, followed by ongoing periodontal maintenance visits—all with additional out-of-pocket costs. Twice, the doctor mentioned that many practices are moving away from accepting insurance and implied that this trend makes it harder for patients to navigate care.

Frankly, I agree—this office does not seem well-versed in insurance billing and may be better suited to operating as a cash-only practice. While the staff was professional and polite, I left feeling confused and underserved. I hope the office improves how it communicates insurance coverage, treatment expectations, and patient financial responsibility upfront.

WALKED OUT - MID cleaning" class="text-blue-600 hover:underline font-medium">teeth cleaning Another Philly institution sold off to line the pockets of private equity. I have been a patient at RD for years and do not have dental insurance. Every other visit, I have paid for my cleaning when I arrive and then we discuss any additional services needed BEFORE we begin those treatments. Today, I was late for my appointment and not sure if I would be taken back so I didn't notice that I did not pay in advance before my cleaning began. Today, my hygienist freaked out mid cleaning that I didn't have insurance and left the room. She came back with a itemized receipt of the treatment she had already began and costs of the treatment she did not finish.

The bill was $2000!! Like I said, I have been coming here for years and had no idea that we were doing anything outside of the normal treatment plan I was scheduled to receive. She mentioned treatment I would need, but again it was all stuff that I have had done at RD before and didn't realize any of it would be outside of a normal cleaning and had never been met with the bill AFTER THE FACT. I was also asked a lot of questions that I found strange since I have been a current and regular patient. I was also asked to fill out patient forms. In both cases, I asked if they had me listed as a new patient and they were defensive and said they were just keeping things updated. All of the computer screens were obviously set to a different software and all of the paperwork was different as well.

When I got home, I noticed the address on my bill was for somewhere in Melville, NY - not the bala office I go to. A few google searches later confirmed that the address belongs to Dental 365 which is owned by The Jordan Company, L. P. , a middle-market private equity firm. The same exact kind of company that looted and bankrupted Crozer Hospital in Chester. Cannot stress enough - half of my mouth has been cleaned, the other half is not lol immediately looking for a new dentist and you should too!

Always responsive and caring. My son was having tooth pain while away at college. They were great about coordinating care while he was away, and getting him right in when he came home. Very happy with the care here.
