Detailed Introduction

The Salt Lake City Department of Veteran Affairs Dental Clinic is a crucial component of the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System, dedicated to serving the dental needs of eligible veterans. Located at 590 Foothill Dr, Salt Lake City, UT 84108, the clinic operates with the broader mission of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which is to provide comprehensive healthcare services to America's veterans. This clinic offers a range of dental services, though eligibility for these services is determined by specific VA guidelines, which consider factors such as military service history, service-connected disabilities, and current health and living situations. Veterans with service-connected dental conditions, former prisoners of war, and those with 100% disabling service-connected conditions often qualify for a wide array of dental care. Additionally, the clinic may provide one-time dental care for recently discharged veterans who apply within 180 days of separation, under certain conditions. Services can include routine examinations, cleanings, fillings, extractions, root canals, crowns, and even implants, depending on the veteran's specific eligibility class and medical necessity. The Salt Lake City VA Dental Clinic is part of a larger network of VA facilities within the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System, which falls under VISN 19, the Rocky Mountain Network. This means veterans in the region have access to integrated healthcare services, with the dental clinic working in conjunction with other medical departments. The clinic emphasizes patient-centered care, aiming to improve the overall health and quality of life for veterans. While individual experiences may vary, reviews often highlight the dedication and compassion of the staff. Appointments are generally required, and veterans are encouraged to understand their eligibility for specific dental benefits by contacting the VA or reviewing their guidelines. The main phone number for the George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center, which houses the dental clinic, is (801) 582-1565, with the dental clinic often reached via extension 1206.

I’ve called 5 separate times starting from 1030 to 1657. No one answered, I left a voicemail all five phone calls. No one has called me back even though the answering system says someone will. I have a service connected dental situation from a botched root canal, I’m experiencing some severe pain and all I need is a little help.

The feeling I get is that no one cares. Interpret this review how you want but I’m extremely unimpressed with this clinic.

Dr Slater in the dental clinic is world class. I’m so thankful for everything he has done for me. He’s the nicest most gentle dentist I’ve ever had. I’m appreciative of all the VA does and anybody that says otherwise sounds so ungrateful to me. It’s a pleasure everytime I visit.

Showed up to my apt and they said my apt had been cancelled. No phone call or anything. A little disappointed that it was a waste of fuel and time. Could have waited 2 hours for them to get me in that day, but didn’t have to time to hang out. Next available apt is in 4 months. Lady at the front desk was extremely helpful and nice though.

The dental office program is a joke. The postcard they sent me gave me directions to the hospital, not the building they are located in. The building is on the far northeast side of the VA campas. By the time I realized this and figured out where the building was, I was late, and they canceled my appointment.

There was no sorry for not providing me with proper directions, nor did they even offer to squeeze me in. They offered to reschedule me and said they were several months out, and after waiting several minutes for them to find an opening and them not finding one, I left. They were supposed to call me to set up an appointment, but that hasn't happened yet.
