Detailed Introduction

Sleep & TMJ Therapy, located at 2841 Hartland Rd #301, Falls Church, VA 22043, is a prominent clinic specializing in the diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders and sleep-related breathing problems, including sleep apnea and snoring. The clinic is led by Dr. Brown (as frequently mentioned in patient testimonials), and their team is highly regarded for their expertise, professionalism, and compassionate patient care. The clinic offers a wide range of services designed to alleviate pain, improve jaw function, and enhance sleep quality. Key services include: TMJ Orthotics: Custom-made oral appliances to relieve jaw pain and improve joint function. Sleep Appliances: Oral devices designed to combat snoring and sleep apnea by repositioning the jaw and maintaining an open airway. These are often presented as a comfortable alternative to CPAP machines. Regenerative Medicine: This can include PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) injections and prolotherapy to naturally ease joint and muscle pain. Migraine Relief: Specialized treatments, potentially including SPG blocks, to target chronic headaches that may be linked to TMJ disorders. Laser Therapy: Non-invasive treatments to soothe soft tissue and joint pain. Sleep Diagnostics: Expert-led studies to identify the root causes of poor sleep and guide effective solutions. Myofunctional Therapy: Exercises to improve breathing, posture, and oral function. Airway Orthopedics & Facial Development: Early intervention treatments, especially for pediatric patients, to support proper growth and prevent adult issues. Sleep & TMJ Therapy emphasizes a holistic and patient-centered approach. They conduct comprehensive assessments, often utilizing advanced diagnostic tools, to identify the underlying causes of symptoms rather than just treating them. Based on these assessments, they develop customized treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique needs. Patient testimonials frequently highlight the staff's friendliness, courtesy, and the doctors' knowledge and ability to clearly explain conditions and treatment paths. The clinic is praised for its welcoming environment, efficient service, and commitment to ongoing patient support, aiming to restore quality of life by reducing pain, increasing energy, and improving sleep. They work closely with other medical professionals to ensure integrated care.

Dr. Brown and his staff are fantastic, and though I have only had one appointment thus far, I feel confident they will be able to help me. The office is really nice and clean, everything was explained to me in a way I could understand, and there really was no wait time to get an appointment or book my follow up.

So far, they have been direct about costs and what I can expect. I have had a lot of stress over tackling the issues I am seeing Dr. Brown about, but after my first appointment, I am hopeful that I will get the care I need!

When a dentist told me I had TMJ, I looked through my insurance for treatment and only found oral surgeons available. I sought out something different and was thrilled to find Dr. Brown and a more gradual, long lasting approach. I had no idea how many of my health issues were symptoms of TMJ! They offer other treatments to help speed the process and make you as comfortable as possible during the treatment process - with one massage and laser treatment alone my snoring from inflammation stopped almost completely, and my husband is so grateful. I love that they work with your insurance, dental and medical, to get as much covered as possible out of network.

. . It's also well worth the cost itself. I just started with my appliances and am excited to start seeing more symptoms resolve.

After two TMJ consultations with Dr. Brown I ended up not moving forward with his treatment plan because it felt like a doomsday money-making scheme to me. He over-dramatized the pain and state of my jaw (which conveniently stressed and panicked me, exacerbating my jaw pain). He is an impressive salesman and uses marketing tricks to give you a sense of urgency and that he is the only person who can help you. I respect a businessman, but the multi-year plan that costs $10,000 for the first year (and then we'll circle back for the following year), and also the treatment only works if you're dedicated to it (which I've heard doesn't always work, and the patient gets blamed for not being dedicated enough), sounds like an extreme measure during which I'm shelling out all this money year over year with a convenient excuse from the office if it doesn't work out.

I've since seen an oral surgeon and a dentist for second opinions that have recommended other non-intrusive ways to manage my jaw pain, and have said that the appliances Dr. Brown recommends are extreme and not necessary for the state of my jaw. Additionally, I appreciate that the staff is friendly, but I never received the genuine support they kept promising regarding my insurance. Upon my first consultation, the receptionist assured me that "the consultation is always covered by insurance, don't worry about it", which it was not, and I ended up paying out-of-pocket. The following appointment, I was assured by Iliana that she was "working out the claim" with my insurance, and that she would get back to me, but she never did.

And the final straw was that Will would "try and find a middle ground" with my insurance about starting the treatment plan, and that he would call me the following morning with an update, and I never heard back from him. These small things added up and amounted to lies to me, which indicates to me at a broader level that the office is not as genuine as they claim to be. I ended up spending about $1000 out-of-pocket for 2 appointments with this office, and had a very stressful few weeks which worsened my jaw pain temporarily, but I'm ultimately relieved I didn't commit to the treatment plan.

Absolutely best experience by far with a doctors office. From the very first phone call the front desk. Staff has been phenomenal with answering questions and getting back to you very quickly when responding. They were upfront with their pricing so we knew going in to our consultation what to expect. The doctor was absolutely amazing.

He was patient and explained everything so well and my 18-year-old left feeling validated for the first time out of all the doctors we had seen for her TMJ previously. He has a great game plan for her and we Are hopeful that was treatment with him that she will feel better. I 100% recommend this office to anyone trying to get relief from their TMJ.
