I called early last week to book a cleaning and routine check up as I’m due. I was asked if I have benefits by the girl on the phone, to which I explained I do BUT I would like to pay out of pocket and was provided a cost of $206. No problem, that’s great. I was pushed to update my X-rays, and I explained twice I do not want them done as an Oral Surgeon completed them February 2025 but I’ll have those files sent over to them. I just received a email from my insurance benefits, showing me Summerhill Dental attempted to pre authorize $600 (which includes two X-rays)….

I automatically declined this claim. And please explain why the amount submitted is triple the price I was provided…… I will be cancelling my appointment this upcoming week and finding a dentist office that listens, and doesn’t scam. Little did they know, I am required to pay that $600 upfront, submitting without my approval yet after I said no…. Is ridiculous.

I have major dentist anxiety and this clinic works really hard to make things as smooth as possible. I broke a tooth and had to go in unexpectedly. They explained every step of every process, made sure I was comfortable with the cost and procedure, etc. I get sedated for my work and it was done efficiently and everything went smoothly.

On top of that, since I was already scheduled for a cleaning in a couple of weeks, they just bumped it up and did it all at once (while making sure I had my usual hygienist). The customer care from start to finish was excellent.

I'll start by saying how wonderful the dental hygienists and Dr. Sophie are. That being said, their front staff is terrible. They are friendly but quite incompetent. Three of my past four experiences have been terrible. The first was my daughter having an appointment at 8:30 a. m.

but them booking the hygienist to start work at 9:00 a. m. without informing us so we had to wait there until the hygienist showed up. The next experience, I checked in at reception and then sat down waiting to be seen. I waited for 20 minutes until the receptionist called my cell phone to see if I was coming in. I informed her I was sitting directly in front of her. The last experience, that has also happened to my sister in the past, occurred tonight when I had an appointment booked for 7pm and had confirmed it via text message.

I got a call at 6:38pm asking me if I was coming in because my appointment was booked for 6:30. I never changed it nor was I informed that it had been changed. There wasn't enough time for me to get the work done so I had to reschedule. I'm very disappointed in this practice.

I have been using Smiles at Summerhill Dental for 14 years. Dr Zaid has been fantastic every time and my children love him. We have seen other dentists in that office and have never been disappointed. I highly recommend.
