Detailed Introduction

Southtown Endodontics is a highly reputable endodontic practice located in Sandy, Utah, established in September 1997 by Dr. Thomas VanDenBerghe. A year later, he was joined by his twin brother, Dr. John VanDenBerghe, creating a unique and experienced team often referred to as the "Endo Twins." Both doctors were born and raised in Salt Lake City and are dedicated to serving their community with exceptional dental care. The practice specializes in endodontics, a branch of dentistry focused on the study and treatment of the dental pulp and the tissues surrounding the roots of a tooth. Their primary goal is to save natural teeth through various procedures, with root canal therapy being a core service. They also handle complex cases, endodontic retreatments, and dental trauma. Dr. Thomas VanDenBerghe earned his bachelor's degree in medical biology from the University of Utah and graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry in 1991. He completed a year-long general practice residency with the United States Air Force and an endodontic residency at the University of Nebraska in 1997. Dr. John VanDenBerghe also received his undergraduate education from the University of Utah and graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry in 1991. He completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency with the U.S. Air Force before specializing in Endodontics at the University of Nebraska Lincoln in 1998. Southtown Endodontics emphasizes a patient-centered philosophy, prioritizing comfort and a seamless experience. They utilize advanced technologies, such as operating microscopes, digital imaging, ultrasonic instrumentation, and fiber optics, to ensure precise and efficient treatments. Patients consistently praise the doctors and staff for their professionalism, clear explanations, and ability to alleviate fears associated with root canal procedures. The practice is known for accommodating emergency cases to minimize delays in treatment and quickly relieve dental pain.

These guys are honestly the best!! I had one of the twins do work on my teenage son and a year later had the other twin do some work on my daughter. Both experiences were just wonderful. They were so attentive and even called to make sure that the healing was going well. The office staff were also awesome. A+++ all around!

I am so upset at the Dr this morning. I took my sister in for a root canal a few weeks ago. She is ill and has been ill for years. She needed someplace to finish a root canal since the area didn’t numb properly with her dentist. She has a high fear of any type of procedure, and an even bigger one with anything with a dentist. The staff was amazing! The procedure went well and they were kind.

There is a lot to the story after that, but mainly she had an infection set in, it’s so bad it’s in her lymphnodes, and she’s had to go in to get the site drained daily this week. No medicines were called in until days later and that was after they tried to fix the bite. This morning she came in and the Dr told her that she could have prevented this had she taken better care of herself. Your guess is as good as mine as to what he was referring to. Her cavity? Her health? Her getting an infection after a root canal? How is shaming someone in pain, who would do anything to be out of the pain, who would do anything to be healthy, help? It makes no sense at all. He then told her “thank goodness it’s not windy outside or you would be blown away outside.

” Who gives the right to anyone to comment about someone’s weight? Especially when they are ill? And to top it off, he accused her of pill popping and told her to lay off of the medicine. She went days without medicine after the procedure! The infection is so bad penecilan isn’t touching it! After over a week of pain, I think a Percocet at 2 in the morning being woken up from pain is more than okay! I feel like this Dr is used to easy cases and when he has someone who’s body didn’t react to how it should have, he places the blame on them instead of accepting that he could have done something different. Shaming a patient is NEVER acceptable.

My daughter needed an emergency root canal after a miserable weekend in pain. We called Monday morning and they were able to get us in for an urgent appointment. The whole staff was great! Everyone was so accommodating and professional.
