When I first started going to this practice I saw Dr. Schiff and I liked him, but he soon went into semi-retirement so I started seeing Dr. Jill Moniz. I had been seeing her every 6 months for several years and I always got a clean bill of health - until one day I went in for my appointment and happened to tell Kristen, the hygienist, that I was having my knee replaced the next day. Dr. Moniz came in, looked in my mouth and said she could not clear me for knee replacement surgery. I told her that no one was asking her to; that my knee replacement surgery had been rescheduled and just happened to fall on the day after my dental appointment.

She told me I needed to see an endodontist and a periodontist, and they both "just happened" to be in the office that day and she could have them see me. I told her thanks, but no thanks. I said if there was anything that needed to be done, I would wait until after the surgery. She became very confrontational and said that I couldn't have my knee replaced until I had the problems taken care of in my mouth. She wouldn't let it go and the situation became very tense and stressful for me. I was nearly in tears when I left. She almost had me convinced that I was going to have to postpone my surgery.

Finally, I told her I would call my doctor at Rothman when I got home and see what they had to say, which I did. What they had to say kind of shocked me. The co-ordinator at Rothman told me that they had stopped sending patients to dentists for clearance several years ago because they discovered that some dental practices were using it as an excuse to perform unnecessary procedures on their patients! She assured me that I was okay to have the surgery. I reported this back to Schiff & Moniz but I never went back.

Calm, clean waiting area, clean bathroom. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about insurance. Dental staff is well trained, compassionate, competent and professional. I would highly recommend this practice!

I had a 3-hour procedure and Dr. Moniz and Jen made it as pleasant an experience as possible. They were kind and considerate about how I was feeling, communicated clearly about everything they were doing, and made me as comfortable as they could. They were so professional and exceptional in their work. I am very grateful.
