Dr. Phillips is a great dentist. He always takes the time to make sure everything is done right and lets me know what his plans our to keep my teeth and gums in the best condition. I truly appreciate his dedication to his clients. His prices are reasonable and I would definitely recommend him and his staff. They are all very nice.

🚫WARNING to self pay patients 🚫……. went in for a simple teeth cleaning, and got piggybacked with X-rays, which are unnecessary at a cleaning. Mind you, we’ve been patients here and already have our X-rays on file. Was told they do this yearly. Called around to double check to see if that’s protocol for cleanings.

No, no it’s not. A sneaky, unprofessional tactic to grab some extra money. Very disappointed.

Under the American Dental Association (ADA) guidelines, yearly dental X-rays are not universally required, but the frequency depends on individual oral health, age, and risk factors, with some healthy adults potentially going 2-3 years between bitewing X-rays. Here's a more detailed explanation: General Recommendation: The ADA recommends that X-rays should be taken based on individual needs, not as a routine procedure. Factors Influencing Frequency: Oral Health: Individuals with a history of dental problems, gum disease, or recurring decay may need more frequent X-rays. Age: Children and teenagers, especially those with a history of cavities, may require more frequent X-rays. Risk Factors: Certain risk factors, such as a history of extensive decay, gum disease, smoking, dry mouth, diabetes, or numerous existing dental work, may necessitate more frequent X-rays. Bitewing X-rays: For healthy adults with no apparent dental problems, bitewing X-rays (which show between the teeth) may be needed every 2-3 years.

Full Mouth Series: A full mouth series of X-rays (which shows all the teeth) is generally recommended every 3-5 years for adult maintenance. Panoramic X-rays: Panoramic X-rays (which show the entire mouth) are particularly important during orthodontic planning phases. Dental Professionals: Your dentist will assess your individual needs and determine the appropriate frequency of X-rays for you. Radiation Safety: The ADA emphasizes the importance of using X-rays in moderation to minimize radiation exposure. Digital X-rays: The ADA recommends using digital X-ray technology, which reduces radiation exposure compared to conventional X-ray film. Lead aprons: The ADA recommends discontinuing the use of lead aprons for patients because X-ray technology has evolved significantly over the years, and because there are better ways to reduce patients' exposure to radiation, such as using digital as opposed to conventional X-ray film.

I 100% agree X-rays are needed, when necessary. A basic cleaning, no, not necessary. I did ask your assistant and also the one training that day as to why we’re doing x-rays. We value trust and you broke it, for what reason? $? You already had my X rays on file from a year ago. This post is to warn others of unnecessary costs of X-rays and dangers of them.
