I waited to do my review because I wanted to see how I responded to my treatment with Dr. Pheling. I’ve suffered from TMJ and upper neck dysfunction for several years. I lived in the Bay Area when my initial pain issues began. I never found a doctor in the Bay who was able to provide me with effective treatment for the issue and I was miserably dealing with daily chronic pain. Thankfully we moved to Seattle and Dr. Pheling was the first specialist I saw.

His treatment has been successful for me- I have a complex case but Dr. Pheling referred me to and works with all the other top notch specialists in the area that I now also see to help me manage my jaw/neck/oral and sleep health. It hasn’t been a quick or easy process but with consistent care and efforts I’m significantly better managed. In one year im heading into the last phases of my treatment and I cannot be more grateful to Dr. Pheling and his staff for helping me reach this point. Yes, he is out of network and the cost of treatment is not cheap but if your priority is your health then it’s the best money you’d have spent on yourself . Dr.

Pheling is very thorough, thoughtful, respectful and has fantastic bedside manner. Sometimes you do have to wait for an appointment or reply but it’s completely worthwhile. Seeing him has been life changing for me. **update** I just completed my last phase of jaw treatment - orthodontia treatment with a sleep ortho specialist who Dr Pehling referred me to and seven years later after the initial onset of my jaw pain, I can finally say that I’m now 98% pain free as long as I wear retainers every night ans get an inner oral massage once every 3 weeks. Dr Pehling referred me to an amazing inner oral massage therapist - couldn’t manage without it!

I came to Dr Pehling after years of jaw issues including popping and regular jaw locks during the night. It was unbearable for me so I scheduled an appointment with Dr Pehling and he made me feel like he knew exactly what I was going through. He immediately started recommending treatment and gave me detailed information about chances of success, costs and duration of the whole treatment. I felt so well informed and after some time I decided to start treatment with him. We began by adjusting my upper jaw with a splint I had to wear 24/7 followed by my lower jaw.

We slowly worked our way to the desirable position. I would come into the office every couple of months and Dr Pehling would always take his time to check on the splints, adjust them and listen to my concerns. Of course, it is scary to see/feel your whole jaw moving around but after all the suffering I knew something needed to change. That was 2 years ago and today I can say it was the absolute best decision I made. Besides some little tension in my jaw after a long day I can’t even compare it to my pain and discomfort I used to feel.

In the last 2 years I can count the amount of jaw locks happening on one hand and over the past 6 months there were none! My sleep got so much better and I’m feeling much more relaxed in general. My body was just super tensed the whole time trying to balance out the wrong jaw posture. The treatment takes time and comes with a price but I would totally do it again to get the quality of sleep (and honestly life!) I have today. I’m so happy I found Dr Pehling and decided to work with him!

Mad Rush

PEHLING = 5 stars GUPTA = 1 star In 2020, Dr Pehling bent over backwards to help me with an urgent situation amidst all the COVID19 chaos. Everything was closed down due to the pandemic, but he found a clinic to meet me at and give me much-needed relief with injections. He genuinely cares about his patients. This is the ONLY place where I've found good quality, solid splints/bite guards. Every other doctor sent me home with a flimsy device that I chewed through in a few nights or a front teeth-focused device that left me in terrible pain after one night. I also get annual or semi-annual injections into my jaw and the surrounding muscles up the sides of my face, my temples, and into my scalp. These are excruciating to receive, but the staff is right there with ice packs. This treatment works wonders for my pain.

My visits over the years for new bite guards with Dr Pehling have been wonderful. He is really talented at the fitting process. After each shaving of the device, he cleans it before inserting it into my mouth. It only takes him a few tries. Last week, Dr Gupta fitted me and it was meh. She doesn't clean the device between shavings so it leaves a bunch of residue in my mouth. Then, she shaved off too much and had to rebuild the bite guard with this horrible tasting goop. It was a vastly different experience than how Dr Pehling does things.

Gupta just ain't it. Gupta also said she'd relay a message to Dr Pehling regarding a bad reaction I had to the last injection I received. Pretty sure that didn't happen. She didn't seem to listen or be very present. That extra care of washing the device after every adjustment is really important.

Dr. Pehling has taken great care of me and my tmj issues for 6 years. I was in extreme pain on my first visit and now my visits are mostly maintenance visits. Dr.

Pehling takes his time, listens well, asks me questions, and seems to know just what to do to relieve the issue I'm having. I have never felt rushed or not listened to. It's definitely worth fighting traffic to get to his office from Everett.
