Detailed Introduction

TMJ & Orofacial Pain Treatment Centers of Wisconsin is a prominent group of clinics dedicated to providing specialized care for patients suffering from temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD), a variety of orofacial pain conditions, and sleep apnea. The Appleton location, specifically, serves as the Appleton/Green Bay Center. Founded in 1982 by Dr. Jay L. Mackman, the practice boasts a team of highly qualified doctors who are uniquely residency-trained and/or board-certified in Orofacial Pain, Oral Medicine, and/or Dental Sleep Medicine. This specialized expertise sets them apart as the only group practice in Wisconsin with such credentials. The clinic offers comprehensive diagnosis and non-surgical treatment protocols for a range of conditions affecting the head, face, mouth, temporomandibular joint, and neck. Their services are designed to address issues such as chronic jaw pain, headaches, facial nerve pain, myofascial pain dysfunction, bruxism (teeth grinding), snoring, and sleep apnea. They emphasize a holistic approach, often utilizing advanced technologies like CBCT imaging for detailed anatomical visualization, Joint Vibration Analysis (JVA) to accurately diagnose TMJD, and MLS Cold Laser therapy for pain and inflammation reduction. A key component of their treatment often involves state-of-the-art custom oral appliances designed to alleviate pain, support, and protect the TMJ. With multiple convenient locations across Wisconsin, including Appleton, Wauwatosa, Waukesha, Oak Creek, and Racine, they strive to make specialized care accessible. They also work with most medical insurance companies and HMOs within Wisconsin, helping patients manage the financial aspect of their treatment. The recognition of Orofacial Pain as a dental specialty by the American Dental Association (ADA) in 2020 further underscores the importance and legitimacy of the specialized care provided by these centers. They are committed to improving the quality of life for their patients through research-based treatment protocols and the latest in technology, aiming for long-term relief and improved daily function without the need for surgery.

I was very disappointed and felt taken advantage of. The first thing they do is take your money, pretty much nothing after that but talk about things unrelated to the real issue. They took half the time repeating to me what I just wrote done in all the paperwork.

Then Dr Tache talked about random things unrelated to TMJ. He lacks boundaries big time; never did any kind of exam, and the visit was over. Huge waste of time and money!

Dr TaChae has been very good at explaining why I’m having so many problems. After years of TMJ, sleep apnea, and other conditions I’m finding it a lot to deal with and at times a bit confusing. All seems to be progressing ok. I’ve got my brace and it’s enough for right now. It’s hard to wear the normal 16-18 hours.

It’s getting more uncomfortable. Hopefully with time my teeth, jaw and neck pain will get better. I’ve only had it 2 days.

Unbelievable that this place is still seeing patients. Dr Tache is horribly rude to his patients and his wife who works there. He caused irreversible damage to my jaw by prescribing a poor quality outsourced splint and having me wear it excessively for more than 16 hours per day. He is pushy and when it comes down to it he's more interested in securing his retirement and paying his fine to the DOJ for falsely billing Medicare and Tri-Care. . .

. . . look it up, not the place to trust with your jaw issues.

After a moderately severe facial injury I had very limited jaw movement and nerve pain. Dr. Tasche evaluated and made recommendations. I had PT and an oral splint. After a year of wearing the splint as directed I had marked improvement. Two years out continuing to wear the splint I am so grateful to have more improvement. The Appleton office has caring, attentive staff.

They provide encouragement at each visit. Dr. T is very intuitive and shares his knowledge and experience with friendly humor and encouragement. If you can listen to his advice and follow the plan he provides, I assure you will improve! It is a long process. There are no shortcuts.
