Detailed Introduction

The UNC Department of Pediatric Dentistry is a specialized division within the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Adams School of Dentistry. Located at 101 Manning Dr, Chapel Hill, NC 27514, this department provides extensive pediatric dental and orthodontic care for children from infancy through adolescence, with a particular focus on serving youths with disabilities and special healthcare needs. As an academic institution, the department operates as a multi-tiered clinic. Patients can receive care from fully-licensed dental faculty, who offer services comparable in cost and speed to private practices. Alternatively, patients can opt for care provided by dental students or residents (post-doctoral trainees), which may be more affordable, often at a reduced cost (approximately one-third the cost of a private practice), though appointments might take longer. All student and resident care is closely supervised by experienced UNC School of Dentistry faculty members. The comprehensive services offered include preventive care (cleanings, sealants), restorative treatments (fillings, crowns), management of gum diseases and traumatic injuries, space maintainers, and minor tooth movement appliances. They also provide specialized services like oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics (braces, headgear, retainers), and address complex conditions such as canker sores, dental injuries, malocclusion, over-retained baby teeth, sensitive teeth, tooth decay, and tooth grinding. The department is also equipped to handle pediatric dental emergencies. A unique aspect of the UNC Department of Pediatric Dentistry is its commitment to patient comfort, notably through the integration of a facility dog named GRAYSON, a golden retriever trained to help soothe anxious young patients. The department also emphasizes a coordinated, team-based approach for complex cases, working with other specialists as needed. This facility is also a teaching hub, offering various courses and seminars for pediatric dentistry students and residents, focusing on diagnosis, treatment planning, behavior management, and contemporary practice.

We were referred here for My oldest daughter when she was 2. She needed oral surgery and really had a long road ahead of her getting her oral health normal (due to hereditary problems). They treated my baby with the most gentile, sweet and compassionate manner. My baby is now 8, and you would never know what she had gone through as a baby.

She doesn't remember a thing and now LOVES to visit the dentist! I have 3 little girls now who come here. They are very thorough and explain everything to the little ones so they don't get scared. They are the most kindest and patient pediatric or any dentists I have ever been to. I'm very thankful to be able to bring my little ones here!

Dr. Jason Lin is fantastic. It’s hard to find a dentist that’s great with young toddlers, but he’s your guy! The entire team in this office is so caring and capable.

This place is a absolute joke. My daughter has a rare genetic disorder and has been in pain for 9 months because of unc Pediatric Dentistry. They dont call you back, they dont follow up properly and now they are giving us the run around about my daughter not meeting protocol to do surgery on her mouth. Meanwhile, my daughters orthopedic, her dentist and another dental practice that we have reached out to all tell us that unc is the only place she can go to, to have this procedure done in a hospital setting.

When you call unc, they deny care but give no alternative route for us to take. My daugter is in pain! We have the best health care coverage and dental coverage that money can buy but unfortunately these clowns dont no what the hell is going on at their own facility. Pathetic to say the least! 1 star is more than they deserve. Do not waist your time with unc!
