Detailed Introduction

Union Community Care is a prominent Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) operating across multiple locations in Lancaster and Lebanon counties, Pennsylvania, including the New Holland, PA site at 435 S Kinzer Ave #6. As an FQHC, Union Community Care is a community-based, non-profit organization established to enhance healthcare access for underserved populations, including those without health insurance, the under-insured, and medically underserved individuals. Their core mission is to "spark equity through patient-led healthcare that welcomes and strengthens our communities by integrating body, mind, and heart." The organization provides a wide range of "360 Care" services, which are designed to be comprehensive, affordable, and tailored to individual needs. These services include primary medical care (for all ages, including pediatrics, women's health, and chronic disease management), urgent care, dental care (including the "Smiles of Joy Children's Dental Program"), behavioral health services (including addiction treatment), social support services, and pharmacy services. They emphasize a "whole health" approach, not only treating existing conditions but also addressing the social determinants of health that contribute to illness. Union Community Care is known for its inclusive approach, welcoming patients regardless of their ability to pay through programs like their Sliding Fee Discount Program. They also assist patients with applying for health insurance coverage (Pennie, CHIP, Medicaid, Medicare) and offer various payment plans to ensure services remain affordable. The organization is committed to removing barriers to care, providing culturally competent services, and employing a diverse staff that reflects the communities they serve. They also offer specialized programs such as school-based health care, HIV care, a mobile care team, and the "Plain Healthy Program" for Plain community homes. Their social support team provides case management, helping patients connect with resources like transportation, housing, food access, and financial assistance.

I am not sure why all the negative reviews. My experience has been totally opposite. I went in for an appointment yesterday and the lady at the front desk greeted me, and was friendly. The rest of the experience was very much the same, great experience with all of the workers. Will update if anything changes, but as of now, no complaints. This was the dental side of things also.

The front desk office workers are friendly, and try to work with you when scheduling appointments, but that’s where the positive feedback stops. They told me our 8-year-old daughter had her first cavity, only to go to another provider and be informed there was no cavity to be seen. We would never have known this if we didn’t have to switch providers in the first place, which we had to do because the Union Community Care office staff told us they were in-network with our insurance provider, only to find out in the billing process, after we had already had the appointments, that this was not the case. I told the office staff from the beginning, before appointments were even scheduled, that their practice was considered in-network with our insurance as long as it was billed under a specific practicing doctor, which I was told this wouldn’t be a problem, only to find out that the practicing doctor that is in-network with our insurance doesn’t even work at this specific office location, so this billing process wouldn’t be possible.

Again, this was after we had already had the appointments; luckily, I have some professional background knowledge on billing claims, or else this office would have tried to stick me with an almost $500 bill for the two appointments for our 5-year old and 2-year-old sons. My husband also had the misfortune of going to this practice for a routine evaluation and x-rays, only to be picked and prodded, and talked to in a condescending way about his oral hygiene. He’s been in pain ever since the appointment, and has to go to an oral surgeon now for what we think is TMJ. I would never recommend this practice to anyone.

I don’t normally write reviews, but this whole experience has been appalling.

Jahaira, the front desk reception was exceptionally unhelpful and rude. I showed up 15 minutes early to an appointment after having left work early so that I could arrive on time, found out I was meant to go to New Holland the town and not the New Holland Avenue location and was hopeful that I could be accommodated since the company has a ten minute grace period and I was on my way there. I called asked if the grace period could be extended 4 minutes (yes, 4 whole minutes) and she was very blunt, unhelpful, and rude with a solid “No. ” My appointment would have been the last of the day, I wasn’t throwing off the start of the day and no one gets seen immediately when their appointment starts anyway.

Regardless, people who work in service should know how to talk to people even if it’s not giving them what they want. I understand my mistake but if I spoke to customers like she did at my job my position would be given to someone more willing to help.
