The Well Child Center, located at 620 Wing St, Elgin, IL, is a long-standing non-profit organization established over 50 years ago (founded in 1971/1972) with a core mission to provide primary and preventive medical care to uninsured children. A cornerstone of their offerings is their comprehensive Pediatric Dental Clinic, which provides a wide variety of dental services for children from birth through age 18, and for children with special needs up to age 21. These services include teeth cleaning, X-rays, fluoride treatments, sealants, fillings, crowns, pulpotomy (root canal therapy), and extractions. They are notable for their "First Tooth" initiative, which integrates a child's one-year WIC appointment with dental care, a program model unique in Illinois and recommended by the American Dental Association. The clinic accepts Medicaid and All Kids Insurance and offers reduced fees for uninsured families, ensuring accessibility to care. Another critical program is the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. This federal nutrition program, administered in Illinois by the Department of Human Services, helps income-eligible pregnant women, breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5. WIC services at Well Child Center include nutrition education, counseling, breastfeeding support, access to nutritious foods, and referrals to other health services. They operate WIC services from their main clinic and three additional locations in Northern Kane County. Beyond dental and WIC services, Well Child Center acts as a hub for community support. They facilitate referrals to other health and social services, striving to be a "one-stop-shop" for families in need. Their building at 620 Wing Street also houses several other health and social service agencies, fostering collaborative relationships to provide a continuum of care. These partners include Consumer Credit Counseling Service, Enriching Partnerships for Early Learning, Hopeful Beginnings, Kids Above All, Kish Optical, Naomi's House – Reset Elgin, and Training Institute of Elgin.
